What does Liu Xiahui mean?

Liu Xiahui is used to praising a gentleman who "sits still".

According to legend, there was a man named Liu Xiahui in the Spring and Autumn Period. In a cold winter, Liu Xiahui slept in a ruined temple. At midnight, a woman came in, shivering with cold. Liu Xiahui gave her her clothes and let her sit in her arms to keep warm. They sat together all night without molestation.

From this, the allusion of "Liu Xiahui sat still" was derived, so later generations often used Liu Xiahui to praise an upright and strong-willed person.

Extended data

Liu Xiahui (720 BC-62 BC1) was a native of Lu in the Spring and Autumn Period. He was once a famous Zhan. Posthumous title was called "Liu Xiahui" by later generations because it was "Hui" and its fief was in the summer.

China was an ancient thinker, politician and educator, and Dr. Lu was fearless. He used to be a judge in Lu, in charge of punishment and prison proceedings. As a model of observing China's traditional morality, his "sit-in" story is widely celebrated. Confucius thought it was a "lost saint", and Mencius respected it as a "saint of peace".

In the thirty-first year of King Xiang Zhou (62 BC1), he died in Zhaocun, Shandong Province, at the age of one hundred, and was granted the title of posthumous title. Because its fief was in Xia Liu, later generations honored it as "Liu Xiahui" and was the ancestor of hundreds of surnames "Zhan" and "Liu".
