What's the climate like in Patagonia, South America?

Patagonia Plateau has a temperate continental climate.

1. The south latitude of the plateau is about 45 degrees, and southwest winds prevail all the year round. Due to the blocking of the Andes, water vapor is difficult to reach and precipitation is scarce. Located in the south temperate zone.

Therefore, the climate of Patagonia Plateau belongs to temperate continental climate.

2. Patagonia is influenced by the westerly airflow in the South Pacific, and humid air from the ocean is brought into Patagonia. The westerly airflow blows over the west coast of South America and the Andes, and the humidity decreases due to cooling and condensation. When it entered Patagonia, the air was already dry. Patagonia can be divided into two climatic zones, the south and the north. The dividing line starts at about 39 south latitude of the Andes and ends at about 43 south latitude of Valdez Peninsula.

3. The northern region is semi-arid, with an average annual temperature of about 12~20℃(54~68℉), and the highest recorded temperature is about 41~ 45℃ (106 ~1/kloc-3 ℉). Sunshine time is the shortest along the coast and the most abundant inland to the northwest. The annual rainfall is about 90 ~ 430mm (3.5~ 17 inch). Dry, cold and strong southwest winds prevail.

4. The climate in the south is quite different from the humid climate in the West Andes. In fact, the northern part of the Southern District is not affected by the Atlantic Ocean-probably because its coastal area is relatively high, reaching 274-548 meters (900- 1, 800 feet) around San Jorge Bay-although the cold west wind in the Pacific Ocean and the cold Falkland current along the Atlantic Ocean have some influence. In the south, with the increase of latitude, the terrain is becoming more and more peninsular and influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The climate in the south area is cold and dry, the coastal temperature is higher than that in the mainland, and there is a strong westerly wind. The annual average temperature is 4~ 13℃(40~55℉), the highest temperature is about 34℃(93℉), and the lowest temperature is -9 ~-33℃ (16 ~ 27 ℉). There is heavy snow in winter and frost all year round. Spring and autumn are only a short transition period between summer and winter. The average annual precipitation is about 127~203 mm (5~8 inches), but it has been recorded as high as 483 mm (19 inches). There is less precipitation in the central arid area, but the sunshine time is longer than that in the coastal and Andes areas.
