1. a summary of the cultural roots of the southern United States can be traced back to the areas pioneered by British colonists.
In the 17th century, most of the colonists were immigrants from Britain, but in the 18th century, a large number of Scots and Northern Irish (later called Irish-Scots) also began to colonize the foothills of Apara's Cheshire Mountains. The neocolonists often had trade and cultural exchanges with local Indians, and sometimes they fought with each other.
After 17, many slaves from Africa were brought to the New World as labor force to cultivate large farms, and agricultural products including tobacco, rice and indigo were planted for export. After 18, cotton became the most important crop. William and Mary College, the earliest university in the south, was founded in Virginia in 1693. This university is famous for its teaching of political economy, and has trained several future American presidents, Jefferson, Monroe and Taylor, all of whom are from Virginia.
In fact, the people born in this area dominated the politics of the First Party System era after the founding of the United States. Among the top five presidents, four-George Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe were all from Virginia. 2. By the civil war in 1855, due to the advantage of the northern population, the south gradually lost control of the federal power, and debated with the north on issues related to state power and slavery.
In 1846, President james knox polk introduced a bill to reduce tariffs, which angered Pennsylvania's industry and made northern politicians retaliate by blocking the federal budget for road construction and port improvement. After the Northern Communists came to power in 1861, many southerners decided that they should separate from the Union.
After abraham lincoln's election victory in 186, seven cotton-growing states decided to secede from the Union and formed the United States. In 1861, they attracted four other states to join.
the United States refused to recognize the state that was established from the state, and continued to station the remaining fortresses of the federal army in the south until the allied countries captured the last fortress in the Battle of Fort Sandburg in April 1861, which also ignited the civil war. In the next four years' war, most of the battles were fought on the land in the south, and only two battles were fought outside the south.
South * * * has always adopted a low tariff policy for products imported from Europe, but charged some extra tariffs for all products from the north. However, the naval blockade imposed by the United States Navy effectively prevented most business activities in and out of the south, so the low tariff policy in the south did not play a role.
most of the transportation networks in the south rely on rivers and ships along the coast. However, both of these pipelines are blocked by the federal navy, and a few railway transportation cannot be carried at all. Therefore, by 1864, the internal transportation in the South was almost paralyzed, which made the economic activities of the allied countries almost stop.
In the whole civil war, the United States (called the United States because they named the United States) finally defeated the United States. The south suffered much more losses than the north, because almost all the major battles were fought on the soil in the south.
In the allied forces, 95, soldiers were killed in battle, 165, died of diseases, and 26, people were lost, but the total number of casualties in the north was more than that in the south. 3. Reconstruction period After the civil war, the south has reached a state of complete collapse in terms of population, infrastructure and economic conditions.
The whole United States is also facing a period of reconstruction, and a large number of troops still occupy the southern region. Many southerners who supported the Confederate States in the civil war lost their basic civil rights (such as voting rights) after the war, and with the subsequent adoption of Article 13 (illegal slavery), Article 14 (giving African-Americans full civil rights) and Article 15 (extending voting rights to black men), African-Americans in the southern region began to have many rights that they had never had before.
