Deep water tulip or shallow water tulip?

The conservation of tulips generally needs shallow water cultivation, that is, the water depth should only cover the bottom of the bulb, not the whole bulb.

This is because there are many water-absorbing cells on the bulbs of tulips. Soaking in deep water will lead to excessive moisture and increase the risk of root disease and rot.

In the process of maintenance, the following watering techniques can be adopted: in warm weather, water once a week, and then water after the soil surface is dry. If it is in summer or high temperature area, water it once a day to avoid the soil being too dry.

In addition, in order to prevent root diseases and rot, soil with good air permeability can be used in the maintenance process, and excess water can be discharged after watering. At the same time, in the early stage of tulip growth, special attention should be paid to watering methods. Bulbs can be soaked in water for about 10 minute to help them fully absorb water.

Growing environment of tulip

Temperature: Tulip is extremely cold-resistant, and can withstand the low temperature of -35℃ in winter dormancy, but it can also be cultivated in the open field in areas with the lowest temperature of 9℃ in winter. If the low temperature below 9℃ lasts for more than 16 weeks, it will break the dormancy of bulbs and make them grow normally.

Lighting: Tulip is a neutral sunshine plant, and the requirements for the length of sunshine are not strict. Likes light and is slightly tolerant to semi-shade, but the light intensity is too low, which weakens photosynthesis and leads to poor growth.

Moisture: Tulips are neither resistant to drought nor water and humidity. Too wet soil has poor air permeability and is easy to grow gray mold. If it is too dry after planting, the flower buds will dry up in the early stage and form "blind flowers".

Soil: Sandy loam with rich humus and good drainage and air permeability is preferred, but it does not grow well on cohesive soil. The suitable pH value is 6.0 ~ 7.0.
