Jiuquan City, formerly known as Suzhou, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province, an important node city and a provincial sub-central city in Gansu section of the Silk Road Economic Belt approved by the Gansu Provincial People's Government.

Jiuquan City is located in the northwest of China, the northwest of Gansu Province and the west end of Hexi Corridor. It is connected with Zhangye City and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in Gansu Province in the east, Qinghai Province in the south, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the west and Mongolia in the north. Since ancient times, it has been a traffic fortress leading to Xinjiang and the western regions. As of June 2023, 1, Jiuquan has jurisdiction over 1 district, 2 county-level cities and 4 counties, with a total area of192,000 square kilometers.

Climatic characteristics of Jiuquan city

Jiuquan has a continental arid climate, which is dry and cold with little precipitation. From east to west, the altitude is1500 ~100m, the annual average temperature is 3.9℃ ~ 9.3℃, and the frost-free period is 127 ~ 158 days. Summer is hot and short, winter is cold and long, but the temperature rises quickly in spring. It is dominated by temperate arid climate and alpine semi-arid climate, and some places belong to areas with excessive heat in warm temperate arid climate.

The southern mountainous area of Jiuquan City has a cold and semi-arid climate with an average annual temperature of 4℃ ~ 6℃, and the corridor area has a temperate arid climate with an average annual temperature of about 5℃ ~ 9℃. The total sunshine hours in the whole year are more than 3,300 hours, and the sunshine percentage is 75%. Precipitation decreases from south to north. The annual precipitation in Qilian Mountain is about 300 mm, and the evaporation is relatively large, mostly between 2000 and 4000 mm.
