Where is the Dabei Temple in Haicheng? Is there anything special?

China has a tradition of worshipping Buddha since ancient times, which can be said to have spread for nearly a hundred years. Some emperors even built their own unique royal temples. Now that the national conditions of our country have improved, many temples are no longer as pure as before, and some even become particularly commercialized. When we travel to temples, we will find that tourists are often charged high fees. This makes us feel that Buddhism seems to be no longer a clean place. However, there are temples in China, which is totally different from what is said. They don't specialize or put merit boxes, so they don't deliberately ask tourists to donate money. More importantly, these monks are only allowed to eat one meal a day and never eat more. So, where is this temple?

This temple is actually located in Dabei Temple in Haicheng, Liaoning Province. It is located in a ravine, because it is surrounded by mountains and has beautiful scenery. Standing in the middle of the temple, you will feel a thousand-year-old temple, which is serious and particularly solemn. In addition, more importantly, we will see a huge reservoir in front of the temple. Yes, this reservoir is used to release tourists.

Because of its age, this temple looks like a gray feeling. Although it is not brilliant at all, it gives people a simple feeling. The overall area of this temple is very large. During the tour, we will turn around the whole temple and won't see any merit boxes. Not only is there no place to donate money, but there are also many slogans reminding tourists that "temples are forbidden to donate money."

There are nearly 100 monks living in this temple. These monks are very disciplined and conscious. Among them, the temple has an important law of life, that is, "monks can't eat anything in the afternoon, can't drink tea and water", and so on.

Then, some people will ask, since they are not allowed to sell tickets and accept donations, how can these monks live? Their lifestyle is also very simple, that is, after the end of August 15 every year, they will collectively go outside to beg for alms. This charity usually lasts 15 days, and they will walk about 300 kilometers at a time. It is reported that this tradition has continued since 1995.

The style of Dabei Temple is really rigorous, which is different from other temples. What do my friends think of this unusual temple? Bian Xiao thinks this is a real Buddhist situation. In today's society, temples have become so serious about fame and fortune, but Dabei Temple still maintains such a pure heart, which is awe-inspiring. What do you think of Dabei Temple? Welcome friends to leave messages and interact. Let's talk about the temples we saw during our trip!

Dabei Temple

Dabei Temple is a thousand-year-old temple located in a ravine in Mao Qi Town, Haicheng City, Liaoning Province. The temple is surrounded by mountains, with blue bricks and gray tiles, morning bells and drums. It is actually a quiet practice place and a pure land on earth.

Master Miao Xiang, abbot of Dabei Temple, led a group of monks to follow Buddhism and Taoism.

Dabei Temple has the following eight commandments:

First, don't grab money. Monks who become monks are not allowed to reserve and use money, nor do they accept money for support. There is no merit box in the temple, so it is forbidden to put money.

Second, one food in Japan and China. Monks don't eat after noon every day.

Third, begging. Stay away from the countryside, walk the world with your feet, travel abroad, become a classic, and educate people with fate.

Fourth, do not accept gifts from foreign monks.

Five, all support the abbot of the temple. By the abbot according to the needs of unified distribution.

Six or three clothes don't leave the body. The color of three clothes must be bad. Eighteen things that monks must carry when they become monks.

Seventh, don't give alms, Dont Ask For Help. If the heart does not climb, the heart will die and the Tao will live.

Eight, follow the instructions.

The above eight rules and regulations are the basic requirements for the practice of Dabei Temple, and they are the practice guidelines that every monk must abide by all his life.

Dabei Temple is a real Buddhist Dojo. There are mountain gates, Tianwang Hall, Seven Buddhas Hall, Great Compassion Hall, Pharmacist Hall, Sutra Hall, Dharma Hall, Zen Hall, Buddha-chanting Hall, Guest Hall, Zhaitang Hall, Yunshui Hall, and Sengliao Hall in the temple. Dojo adheres to the principle that men and women do not live together, and it is quiet and clear.

Dabei Temple Dojo is merciful and all beings in the world are equal. The drums used in the temple are made of synthetic materials, not animal skins. Dojo does not use articles and foods containing animal ingredients, nor do it use articles and foods with animal images.

Good men and women from all corners of the country bathe in Buddha's light and enjoy Buddhism.

Dabei Temple has no tickets, no tourism and no business in the temple. Scriptures, Buddha statues and other magic weapons are provided free of charge.

In today's materialistic society, there is still a cool temple, and even the Buddha should smile.

I hope that the Dabei Temple in Haicheng will always inherit the Buddhist spirit, all good people will pursue it, and all evil people will do nothing; Take precepts as teachers and gradually become bodhi; Protect the Buddha country forever.

Why was Dabei Temple in Haicheng, Liaoning Province blocked?

Because of fire problems, it will only be closed after rectification within a time limit. After thousands of years, the buildings of Dabei Ancient Temple are inevitably destroyed, and there are potential safety hazards, so it is difficult for fire-fighting facilities to meet the current fire safety standards. The relevant departments shall order rectification within a time limit according to the current standards. According to the actual needs of the special renovation of Dabei Ancient Temple, a special working group was set up to repatriate monks, animals and articles.

Basic information and temple history of Dabei Temple

Dabei Temple, located in a ravine in Mao Qi Town, Haicheng City, Liaoning Province, is surrounded by mountains, and there is a drainage reservoir in front of the mountain. Quiet environment, it is a quiet practice place. The Dabei Temple built on the mountain has begun to take shape. There are Mountain Gate, Tianwang Hall, Seven Buddha Hall, Great Compassion Hall, Yakushido, Buddhist Sutra Hall, Dharma Hall, Zen Hall, Buddha-chanting Hall, Guest Hall, Zhaitang Hall, Yunshui Hall and Sengliao Hall.

In Dabei Temple, the main building is mainly in gray tone, with blue bricks and gray tiles, no gorgeous colors, calm and solemn, built for practice, reflecting the principle of practice. Dabei Temple, an ancient temple, was originally a city-level cultural relics protection unit in Haicheng. The original site is located on the south slope of Tangwangshan, Mao Qi Town, Haicheng, with an unknown construction date. According to the existing inscriptions and historical records, it was repaired many times in the twenty-eighth year of Qing Daoguang and the first year of Tongzhi.

In the eighth year of Guangxu, eight neighboring villages elected Qu Yongchang, a five-level tribute student, as the president, and proposed to raise huge sums of money and build more pavilions. The scale of this temple is unprecedented. Since then, the stone tablets in the Qing Dynasty have experienced wars, social ups and downs, monks being expelled and having no abbot. After the Cultural Revolution, the temple fell into disrepair and was only guarded by an old believer.

1993, in order to implement the religious policy, meet the needs of local believers, and develop Tangwangshan silica sand mine resources, the Dabei Temple was moved to a ravine in Caojiabao Village, Mao Qi Town, Haicheng City with the approval of Anshan Municipal Office of Religious Affairs (now the Bureau of Religious Affairs).

What's the difference between Dabei Temple in Haicheng and Dabei Ancient Temple?

The difference between Dabei Temple in Haicheng and Dabei Ancient Temple is that Dabei Temple is a regular temple, while Dabei Ancient Temple is a scholar forest.

Specific differences between Dabei Temple in Haicheng and Dabei Ancient Temple;

The monks of Dabei Temple in Haicheng, Liaoning Province, all hold the precept of not grasping money and eat it every day. Monks get up at 2 o'clock every morning, go to shurangama mantra 10 times, read the precepts for 2 hours in the afternoon, and only rest for 4 hours every day. Keep the Buddhist system, starting on August 15th of the lunar calendar every year. Begging for food on the road. The discipline in the temple is strict, the monks have enough dignity, and the Buddhist precepts are fully reflected here! Dabei Temple has no merit box, and there are two Buddhist ceremonies (14, overtaking and 15, Pufo) every month, without any charge.

It is converted twice a year, on April 8 and July 15 respectively. To convert to a layman, you must recite the Heart Sutra and the Mercy Mantra before you can issue a conversion certificate. In Dabei Temple, Haicheng District, Liaoning Province, all monks take money to quit and eat once a day. There is no merit box in the temple, and there are two Buddhist services per month (14 pilgrimage to Pakistan, 15 Buddha), without any charge.

The 15 is converted twice every April 8th and July. To convert to a layman, you must recite the Heart Sutra and the Mercy Mantra before you can issue a conversion certificate. Monks get up at 2 o'clock every morning, go to shurangama mantra 10 times, read the precepts for 2 hours in the afternoon, and rest for 4 hours every day. Maintain the Buddhist system, starting from August 15 every year. Begging for food on the road. In the temple, the discipline is strict and the monks have enough dignity! The precepts of the Buddha are fully reflected here!

The abbot of Dabei Ancient Temple is not a monk, or rather, there is no abbot, because the head of the family is not a monk, but a layman, surnamed Tan, the director of Jushilin, and monks and nuns listen to the arrangement of the director. I have never seen Tan Changlin with my own eyes, but I have only heard his voice, which is very kind and gentle. It is said that Tan has a daughter, who is not young now, and he and his wife are also very loving. He devoted himself to Buddhism for many years, with profound attainments, and intended to become a monk.

When he was about to become a monk, his wife was pregnant again. (Later, he gave birth to a son. It is not natural to become a monk at this time, but his heart for Buddha is very sincere and urgent, so he made up his mind to build a scholar forest. Naturally, the scale was very small at first, and then the four of them were gradually moved by his sincere heart, and the scale of the scholar forest became larger and larger.

It was raining cats and dogs the second time, and I did some work during the break. A rough observation shows that there are no fewer than two or three thousand people participating in Buddhism, and the grand occasion of good weather can be imagined. I think Tan has the style of Rilian, the founder of Rilian School, a major sect of Japanese Buddhism.

Generally speaking, Buddhist services in temples require the victim to pay a certain amount of money, and monks and nuns will sing extraordinary scriptures. Most of the victims are not proficient, do not know what the masters are singing or know very little. Dabei Temple didn't ask anyone for money. Whether to give it or not is up to the victim.

More importantly, everyone who practices Buddhism sends out a book "Ode to the Three Hours of the Peak" (I don't remember the name exactly, but the monks lead us to sing sentence by sentence, and the Buddhist attainments and religious identity of some frequent visitors will certainly gradually deepen, so I think Lin Tan is an educator.

Among the three Buddhist events, Nan Wu sang Amitabha very slowly. It feels like climbing a mountain. At first, it was a slow and flat slope, which was easy to walk. Gradually become Amitabha, the rhythm will become faster, as if the slope is getting steeper and steeper, and the road is more difficult to walk; Read Amitabha many times in one breath. The specific singing method is to read the third sound for the first A word and the fourth sound for the rest A words. From a close distance, it looks like a steep slope that goes straight up and down. The people above pull hard, and the people below push hard to help the people in the middle get on together.

From a distance, singing like this is like a sharp arrow soaring into the sky, rising rapidly and crossing many realms at once, until everyone is tired and hoarse and there is nothing to sing. When there is nothing to sing, the rhythm suddenly slows down. There is a gentle Amitabha in the south, which has been read many times, just like climbing a mountain to the top.

Extended data:

Dabei Temple's story: It is said that when the Tang King led his troops to the East, he played chess with Xue, the minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the top of this mountain. There is a magical stone chessboard on the mountain. Chess pieces can move back and forth on the board, but they cannot be taken away. There is a flat land on the top of the mountain, called "Boot-taking Top", which was formed by the soil shaken off by the Tang King when he took off his boots. There are also stone pots and horseshoe prints left by the Tang king on the mountain. Later, people called this mountain "Tangwangshan", which has been passed down to this day. In recent decades, due to people quarrying and mining here, these relics on the mountain no longer exist.

On Huang San Mountain in the south of the Tang Dynasty, there was an ancient temple, Dabei Temple in the Tang Dynasty. According to legend, Li Shimin, the king of the Tang Dynasty, came to the Tang King during the crusade. One day, in his sleep, the king of Tang dreamed that Guanyin, the master of the South China Sea, touched him and said that the king of Tang had met with disaster and escaped from danger because of the help of the bodhisattva. After the Tang King returned to the DPRK, he ordered the temple to be rebuilt. The Great Hall of Compassion in the Tang Dynasty was built from this.
