The World Meteorological Organization is the authoritative voice of the United Nations on weather, climate and water. As the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, I am deeply honored to address you on the occasion of this important event.

I'd like to congratulate the government of China on organizing this extraordinary 20 10 World Expo, which is a historic "first time" in many aspects. Expo 20 10 brought together many people from all over the world.

WHO will exchange knowledge and experience, and share the vision and projects of building a "better city". This is the first time in the history of the World Expo that an exhibition hall is entirely used for weather and climate. Meteorological Paradise is a joint exhibition hall of China Meteorological Bureau and World Meteorological Organization. The Meteorological Museum shows how to use weather and climate information to bring a better life to a better city.

Congratulations to the Ministry of China for hosting the unique World Expo 20 10, which created a "first" in history in many aspects. Expo 20 10 brings together people from all over the world, including representatives from high-level departments, policy makers, decision makers and experts. At the World Expo, they will exchange knowledge and experience, and * * * share their vision and projects about creating a "better city, better life". For the first time in the history of this World Expo, a pavilion dedicated to weather and climate was set up. This meteorological pavilion named "Meteorological World" is jointly organized by the China Meteorological Bureau and the World Meteorological Organization. The Meteorological Museum will show the world how to use weather and climate information to make city life better.

We all need to know more about our future. We all need to establish a strong mechanism to adapt to changing climate conditions and improve our collective ability to cope with extreme weather and prevent natural disasters. On behalf of the International Meteorological and Hydrological Organization

I would like to express my deep gratitude to the National Organizing Committee for the 20 10 Shanghai World Expo in People's Republic of China (PRC). The improvement of urban life quality is closely related to the weather.

Climate and water. You have submitted to the World Meteorological Organization and its members

And partner organizations
