Water freezes in winter. Can I use the water heater?

If the water freezes, it can't enter the water heater, and the water heater can't work and can't be used.

If the water in the main water pipe at home or the pipe before the inlet and outlet of the water heater freezes, the frozen water pipe must be heated to melt the ice before it can be used normally.

Winter is the peak season for the use of water heaters, and it is also the high season for the safety accidents of water heaters. In order to use the water heater safely, you need to take anti-freezing measures. Different water heaters have different treatment methods:

1. Gas water heater

Winter is the peak of poisoning accidents of gas water heaters. The production and sales of in-line household gas water heaters have been banned by the state, and users need to replace in time the in-line gas water heaters or balanced gas water heaters with high safety performance. The gas water heater must be installed outside the bathroom (except for the balanced gas water heater), and the smoke exhaust pipe must be installed according to the national standard, so as to discharge the waste gas generated when the gas water heater is used to the outside. When users use gas water heaters, they must maintain good indoor ventilation to ensure the natural convection between indoor air and outdoor air. Regularly clean the carbon deposit and dust on the heat exchanger plate to ensure smooth flue gas discharge.

2. Electric water heater

Electric water heaters are high-power appliances, and the power is generally around 1500W to 3000W W. It is necessary to use a special wall socket with reliable quality, and it is best to use the water heater alone. For families who don't often use electric water heaters, they should be electrified and heated one hour before taking a shower, and then turned off after taking a shower to keep the power consumption to a minimum.

3. Solar water heater

Users of solar water heaters must pay attention to temperature changes. When the temperature is not lower than 5-7℃, if there is still hot water left in the water tank after using water that night, the water tank must be filled with water to reduce the heat loss of the water temperature in the water tank. If the temperature is low, it is advisable to water it the next day to prevent the pipeline from freezing. In case of rain and snow, only half a tank of water can be added as needed, but if the water consumption is large, the electric heating function can be considered when necessary to ensure sufficient hot water supply.

Anti-freezing is an important event for solar water heaters in winter. When the temperature is below zero, you can turn on the tap of the solar water heater and let it drip slowly to keep the pipeline unblocked. If the vacuum tube is covered with snow, don't wipe off the snow. The vacuum tube is very fragile in extreme cold, and cleaning the snow will damage the vacuum tube.

4. Air energy water heater

If the user uses an air energy water heater with kitchen refrigeration function, it is necessary to switch the three-way reversing air valve to the outdoor in winter, set the machine mode to the standard heating mode (small sun), and set the hot water temperature to 55℃. When the domestic water consumption increases, it is necessary to set the target temperature of hot water higher to ensure that the whole family can enjoy comfortable hot water. Air energy water heaters are prone to frost below -3℃. Many water heaters can defrost automatically, but in order to ensure the normal operation of water heaters, it is recommended that users in the north install air energy hot water indoors.
