Why do old people cry?

There are two main situations in which the elderly love to cry: one is that in the cold season, the elderly tend to cry in the wind when they go out for activities. This is because the elderly, stimulated by cold air, will reflexively cause excessive secretion of the main lacrimal gland. At the same time, the skin and muscles around the face and orbit contract after being stimulated by cold air, squeezing the lacrimal passage, preventing tears from being discharged from the nasal cavity and being forced to flow out of the corner of the eye, so there will be tears. Older people with chronic conjunctivitis are more likely to have this situation. The other is tears caused by eye diseases, such as trachoma, ciliary inversion, keratitis and ametropia. These eye diseases can lead to conjunctival congestion and even damage the cornea. At this time, the sensitivity of eyes to external stimuli is enhanced, and the phenomenon of tears is more obvious. It may also be accompanied by photophobia, eye pain and other symptoms. If the elderly suffer from chronic dacryocystitis, lacrimal duct stenosis and other lacrimal diseases, tears can not be discharged through the nasolacrimal duct, they will shed tears and even overflow purulent secretions. Old people in this situation will cry even if they sit at home, often "tears in their eyes." How should the elderly prevent tears? Dr. Wu believes: First of all, we should pay attention to the diet of the elderly, which should be light. You can eat more carrots (vitamin A), drink more water and make tea with Lycium barbarum. In strong light or windy weather, the elderly can wear glasses or sunglasses to protect their eyes when they go out. In addition, don't spend too much time reading newspapers and watching TV to avoid eye fatigue. Generally, you watch TV for 40 ~ 45 minutes, so you should take a break, watch farther, and rest for 10 minutes is more appropriate. For the elderly with poor eyesight, it is generally not advisable to watch TV for more than 2 hours every day. Dr. Wu stressed that attention should be paid to the tears of the elderly with eye diseases, and they should go to the hospital as soon as possible to find out the causes of tears and receive corresponding treatment.
