Reasons for Shutdown of Mutu Railway

Mutu Railway, formerly known as Tuning Railway (Mudanjiang formerly known as Ningbei), starts from Tumen City, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province in the south and reaches Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province in the north, with a total length of 248 kilometers and 24 stations. The whole line is a single-track non-electrified railway.

The construction of Mutu Railway started in June 1933, and the Tumen-Chunyang section was completed in September 1934. In June 1935, the whole line was completed and opened to traffic. It is the north-south traffic artery in the northeastern border of China, and it is a part of Tujia Railway and Dongbiandao Railway. Along the line, the mountains are high and the forests are dense, the valleys are vertical and horizontal, and the mineral resources and forest resources are rich.

Mutu Railway leads northward from Tumen Station, crosses Gaya River several times, passes through Wangqing and Laomiao, crosses Laoyeling, the boundary mountain between Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces, and reaches Ludao. After crossing Tokyo, cross Mudanjiang to Mudanjiang before and after Ning 'an.

The terrain where the line is located is low in the south and high in the north, and the southern half is hilly, with Laosongling as the highest point and an altitude of 669.9 meters; Mudanjiang is 141.5 meters higher than Tumen. The northern half is slightly flat. There are 19 bridges and 9 tunnels over 5 meters along the * * *, the longest of which is the 19-meter-long Beilao Songling Tunnel, followed by the 1211-meter-long Nanlao Songling Tunnel; Construction of two spiral exhibition lines from Xinxing to Wangqing.

agriculture, forestry and minerals are the main products along the line. Crops mainly include soybeans, wheat, sorghum, millet, corn and rice. Primitive forests are distributed in Gaya River basin and Laosongling area. Mineral resources mainly include placer gold, copper, coal and limestone.
