Climate characteristics of Linhai

Linhai has remarkable climate characteristics and is located in the subtropical marine climate zone on the eastern coast of Zhejiang Province. There are four distinct seasons here, with warm winters and hot summers. The average annual temperature is between 16°C and 18°C, the high temperature in summer can reach 35°C, and the low temperature in winter is around 6°C. The oceanic climate makes the temperature changes relatively small. Precipitation is abundant, with annual precipitation of about 1200~1600mm, especially abundant in summer and autumn, which is beneficial to the growth of crops. The wind direction is seasonal, with north wind in winter and south wind in summer, affecting temperature, precipitation and air quality.

In recent years, global climate warming has affected Linhai, with an increase in extreme rainfall and heavy rains, exacerbating the risk of urban waterlogging and flash floods. The frequency of hot weather has increased, posing new challenges to flood control and heatstroke prevention. The climate near the sea is affected by multiple factors such as mountain topography, sea temperature, and monsoon airflow. The Pacific Warm Current is particularly significant.

Linhai’s climate has a positive impact on local life and production. For example, it is suitable for the growth of crops, and fruits such as bananas and longans are of high quality, which promotes the development of agriculture and tourism. Summer seaside tourism and the seafood industry are important pillars of the economy. In the face of climate change, Linhai has taken response measures, including improving the accuracy of weather forecasts, strengthening urban drainage systems, and optimizing agricultural structures to enhance resilience and cope with the challenges posed by climate change.
