Can you wear rgp contact lenses for dry eye?

First, what contact lens is best for dry eye?

Generally speaking, it is not recommended, but if necessary, try to wear RGP (affecting contact lenses).

What problems should patients with dry eye pay attention to:

1. Normal lifestyle, adequate sleep and no staying up late.

2. Eat a balanced diet, eat less irritating food and eat more fruits and foods rich in vitamins A, C and E; Such as liver, egg yolk, milk, butter (cod liver oil) or dark green and yellow fruits and vegetables (such as Qingjiang vegetables, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, papaya, sweet potatoes, mangoes, or oranges).

3. If you need to read a book or operate a computer for a long time, it is suggested that you must rest for 5–10 minutes every 50 minutes. Blinking unconsciously at rest can make a thin layer of tears on the eyeball surface spread evenly and protect the cornea.

4. Hot compress on eyes: Soak the clean towel in hot water slightly higher than the average bathing temperature (the temperature shall not burn the wrist), wring it out slightly, lay the towel flat on the closed eyelids, and then soak it in hot water for hot compress after the towel cools down.

5. If you have eye discomfort, don't buy eye drops, because long-term use of some substances will cause conjunctival and corneal damage, leading to dry eye.

6. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the eyelid edge when washing your face. If necessary, you can use a cotton swab dipped in water to partially clean the eyelid edge, so that the secretory glands of the eyes are unobstructed.

7. If you want to wear contact lenses, you should first evaluate your tear secretion by a doctor and choose the appropriate contact lens type and wearing time.

8. When using the computer, the line of sight of the eyes should be parallel to or slightly lower than the screen height of the terminal. Looking up at the screen will increase the exposed area of the eyeball and easily lead to tears evaporation, dryness and fatigue.

9. Avoid hot and windy outdoor activities. If you need to be outdoors, it is recommended to wear glasses with wide edges to avoid wind irritation to your eyes. If you need to ride a motorcycle, you'd better wear a full-face helmet to prevent dry eye from getting worse.

Second, what are the causes of dry eye?

1. Lacrimal gland hyposecretion: the most common cause of dry eye; Congenital absence of lacrimal gland, the decline of lacrimal gland function with age, or inflammation, trauma, infection and autonomic nervous disorder of lacrimal gland caused by some autoimmune diseases, long-term administration of some eye water or substances will lead to insufficient tear secretion; As for wearing contact lenses for a long time, sometimes it will affect the secretion of tears because of reducing the sensitivity of the cornea.

2. Insufficient oil layer secretion: dysfunction of sebaceous glands of eyelid caused by eyelid diseases.

3. Insufficient secretion of mucin layer: vitamin A deficiency, chronic conjunctivitis, pemphigoid, chemical burn, etc.
