Where is grass carp usually when it rains?

Grass carp in the rain live in the middle and lower layers of water and in the coastal areas with more aquatic plants.

Lively, swimming fast, often foraging in groups, grass carp eat larvae, algae and so on. Grass carp larvae also eat some carnivorous foods, such as earthworms and dragonflies, and spend the winter in the deep water of the main stream or lake. During the breeding season, parent fish have the habit of swimming against the current.

Widely distributed in China, from Heilongjiang to Yuanjiang (except Tibet and Xinjiang), and has been transplanted to Asia, Europe, America, Africa and other countries.

Natural reproduction:

Grass carp is generally sexually mature at the age of 4, and the earliest is 3 years old. Mature females weigh more than 5 kg. The breeding season of grass carp is basically the same as that of silver carp and bighead carp, that is, April-July. The breeding season in the north and south of China is different. The Yangtze River is from April to June, and the northeast is a little later.

During the breeding season, pearl stars appear on the pectoral fins of parent fish, which are rough to touch by hand. Grass fish eggs are large in diameter, about 5 mm, belonging to floating eggs.

The spawning ground of grass carp is selected at the confluence of the main stream of the river, the deep trough water on one side of the meandering stream, and the sudden contraction of the two banks. Grass carp can produce 300 ~ 1.38 million eggs at a time. After the fertilized egg absorbs water and expands, the egg diameter can reach about 5 mm, and it can drift along the river.
