The climate type of Germany is temperate maritime climate.

Although most of Germany is located in the latitude north of the US-Canada border, it is closer to the Arctic Circle than the Arctic Circle, but Germany has a mild climate and usually does not have persistent cold or high temperature.

The northwest and coastal areas of Germany have a maritime climate because of the warm westerly winds in the North Sea. The climate is characterized by warm summer and mild and cloudy winter. In further inland areas, the climate belongs to continental climate, characterized by large temperature difference between day and night and seasons, hot in summer and cold in winter.

The main air masses that cause marine weather are Iceland's low pressure system and Azores' high pressure system. These two air masses provide water-filled clouds driven by the west wind for western Europe.

This is often the case in the northern lowlands. When they are between these air masses, they will be affected by both. At this time, the wind comes from the west, usually a strong wind. When only one system is dominant, it is usually the low point in Iceland.

Although the Icelandic trough originated in the near polar region, it was influenced by the Gulf Stream.
