Tropical cyclones are divided into four grades according to the maximum surface wind speed near the center:

1. Typhoon

Maximum wind speed > 32.6m/s, i.e. 12 or more (64 knots or more).

2. Severe tropical storm

The maximum wind speed is 24.5-32.6m/s, that is, wind10-1(48-63 knots).

3. Tropical storms

The maximum wind speed17.2-24.4m/s, that is, the wind force is 8-9 (34-47 knots).

4. Tropical depression

The maximum wind speed appears <17.2m/s, that is, the wind force is 6-7 (22-33 knots).
