Heavy rain, showers, thunderstorms. What's the difference between heavy rain and thunderstorm?

Rainstorm: It is rain with great precipitation intensity. It is raining cats and dogs. According to China's meteorological regulations, rain with a precipitation of more than 50 mm in 24 hours is called "rainstorm".

According to its precipitation intensity, it is divided into three grades, that is, the 24-hour precipitation of 50 ~ 99.9 mm is called "rainstorm", and the rainfall below 100 ~ 200 mm is called "heavy rainstorm"; More than 200 mm is called "rainstorm".

Shower: Rain with short duration, sudden start and end, and great change of precipitation intensity. Sometimes accompanied by lightning and thunder, mostly in summer.

Rainfall and rainstorm with significant changes in intensity in a short period of time generally refer to rainfall with a daily (24-hour) precipitation of 25-49.9 mm.

The rain fell like a downpour, blurred into pieces; The water in the depression is extremely fast; There is rain on the roof; 12 hour precipitation15 ~ 30mm or 24-hour precipitation of 25 ~ 50mm.

Thundershower: It is a weather phenomenon, which shows a wide range of cloud movements, much more violent than showers, accompanied by discharge, and is common in summer. When a thunderstorm comes, there will often be strong winds and thunderstorms.

Heavy rain is much heavier than thunderstorms and showers.

There are two main hazards of extended data rainstorm:

1. Flood disaster

Due to heavy rain and poor drainage, it is easy to cause waterlogging, and the soil pores are full of water, which leads to the lack of oxygen in the roots of terrestrial plants, inhibits the physiological activities of the roots, strengthens the anaerobic process, produces toxic substances, harms crops and reduces production.

2. floods

Floods caused by heavy rain flooded crops, making it difficult for crops to metabolize normally and causing various injuries. The deeper the flooding, the longer the flooding time and the more serious the harm.

Flash floods and river floods caused by heavy rains not only endanger crops, fruit trees, forestry and fisheries, but also destroy farmhouses and industrial and agricultural facilities, and even cause human and animal casualties and serious economic losses.

Almost all the floods in the history of our country were caused by rainstorm, such as July flood in the Yangtze River basin 1954, August flood in Hebei province 1963, August flood in Henan province 1975, and June flood in the Yangtze River basin in China 1998.
