Are Hainan and Sanya the same place?

Hainan and Sanya are not the same place.

Hainan, referred to as "Qiong" for short, is a provincial administrative region in China. Haikou, the provincial capital, is located in South China of China, with a boundary of 18 37'-111 3' east longitude and 18 1'-2 1' north latitude.

Sanya, called Ya for short, was called Ya Zhou in ancient times, and it was also called Lucheng. It is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province, located at the southernmost tip of Hainan Island. Sanya is adjacent to Lingshui County in the east, Ledong County in the west, Baoting County in the north, and the South China Sea in the south, between 18 9 ′ 34 ″ and 18 37 ′ 27 ″ north latitude and 18 56 ′ 3 ″ and 19 48 ′ 28 ″ east longitude.

Historical evolution of Hainan

After p>195, Hainan was established as an administrative district, and in 1951, an administrative office was established in Qiongshan. Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was established in the southern half of the island, and the state capital is located in Chongshan Town, Baoting County (now Chongshan Town, Wuzhishan City). The province * * * has eight special zones, including Pearl River, Dongjiang River, Xijiang River, Central Guangdong, South Road, Xingmei, Chaoshan and Qiongya, and a temporary administrative committee of Beijiang River.

In May, 195, Hainan Island was declared liberated, and Hainan Military and Political Committee was established to implement military control. in October, 1954, the county party Committee, county government and directly under the authority of Zhongxian moved to sanya from Yacheng.

In p>1958, it merged with Baoting, Lingshui and Wanning Xinglong Niulou to form Yaxian County (big county). In 1959 and 1961, it was separated to set up Baoting County and Lingshui County. Yaxian county retains the area under its jurisdiction.

On May 19th, 1984, Sanya City (county level) was established with the approval of the State Council. In November, Sanya Town was cancelled, and preparations were made for the establishment of Hedong and Hexi sub-district offices.

On September 26th, 1987, the State Council approved Sanya to be upgraded to a prefecture-level city. On December 3th, Sanya prefecture-level city was formally established and listed for office.

in may p>1988, Hedong and Hexi administrative zones were established.

On February 11th, 214, the State Council approved the establishment of four new districts in the town of Sanliu, Sanya, namely Jiyang District, Tianya District, Haitang District and Yazhou District.
