Why did the Gan Ling, buried by Wu Zetian and Li Zhi, not be discovered so far?
Ganling is located in Liangshan, Ganxian County, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. According to historical records, it is the burial tomb of Tang Gaozong Li Zhi and Wu Zetian. The way of construction is to build a mausoleum by the mountain, and Ganling is the best preserved mausoleum among the famous eighteen tombs in the Tang Dynasty. It is also the only mausoleum preserved to this day among many tombs in the Tang Dynasty. There are 17 buried tombs around Ganling, where princes, princesses and heroes are buried. So why hasn't Ganling, the first mausoleum in the Tang Dynasty, been excavated since its discovery?
The history of the theft of Ganling
In fact, Ganling is not without the attention of grave robbers, but there are indeed many factors that lead to its complete preservation so far. Some people say that the mausoleum is well built and no one can steal it. Others said that Wu Zetian invited a warlock to put a spell on his tomb to protect it from theft. Others say that Ganling's feng shui is excellent, blessed by God, and mortals can't get close to it. What is the truth is still unknown. Ganling was also stolen. Let's briefly review the history of Ganling being patronized by grave robbers:
0 1
After the Huang Chao Rebellion in the late Tang Dynasty and Huang Chao's occupation of Chang 'an, he also had the idea of Ganling. It is said that more than 400,000 troops were sent to rob Ganling. At that time, they didn't know the direction of Ganling, so they dug more than half a mountain on the west side of Liangshan. As a result, they dug farther and farther away from the real tomb. Ganling sits facing south and digs west, which is definitely not possible. In the end, these 400,000 people returned in vain.
02
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, there was a secretariat who was also eager to stir up Ganling. He once led a small group of people to dig Ganling in public. Perhaps it was an epiphany from heaven or a spell came into effect, and something strange happened during his excavation of Ganling. Every time I go to dig a grave, there are no clouds in Wan Li and Wan Li, but in Liangshan, it suddenly becomes stormy and thunderstorm. Once this can be understood as abnormal weather, it's nothing, but it's really a ghost to encounter this strange thing three times in a row. It is said that this secretariat has been dug up many times, but it has come to nothing.
03
The last large-scale excavation of Ganling took place during the Republic of China. At that time, the Kuomintang troops in Sun Lianzhong were also very concerned about the treasures of Ganling. It is said that Sun Lianzhong is closer to Ganling, because they used explosives to blast three vertical stone bars in the tomb. As we all know, as long as you open the tomb, you can go deep into the tomb, but there is a little less treasure. But at this time, something strange happened. Just as the grave robbers were complacent about the wealth they were about to gain, a puff of black smoke suddenly emerged from the tomb. This black smoke spiraled up and gradually developed into a tornado. Suddenly, flying sand and stones, in the dark, the soldiers who robbed the tomb fled in fear. Tomb-raiding activities in Sun Lianzhong also came to an abrupt end.
The reason why Ganling was not stolen
Now, some of the above three statements are credible and some are mysterious. Just have fun and don't take them seriously. Closer to the historical truth should be this explanation: the construction of Ganling conforms to astrological numerology. General Gao built his own tomb according to the advice of astrologer Li, and after his death, he sealed the entrance with a huge slate so that others could not dig it easily. After the death of Wu Zetian, the hole was opened. After Wu Zetian was buried, it was reinforced with huge stones, and then the cracks in the stones were filled with molten iron, which was difficult for ordinary people to pry open. Personally, I tend to support the dry tomb to be built firmly, and it is not easy for grave robbers to find such an explanation.
