What do you think about the situation of the country's first glacier being "quilted"?

Due to human’s uncontrolled exploitation of earth’s resources, waste of resources, pollution of ecological environment, destruction of ecosystems and other bad behaviors, the global greenhouse effect has been intensified. The temperature in various parts of the world is slowly and continuously rising, especially in the polar regions, where the temperature is rising very fast. This has caused many glaciers to begin to melt and become smaller, and some icebergs have even disappeared and melted into the sea. In order to slow down the melting rate of glaciers, some areas have adopted the method of covering glaciers with quilts, which has attracted global attention.

A wave of unexpected operations was performed at the Dagu Glacier Scenic Area in Aba Prefecture, China - covering the glacier with a quilt. In August this year, Wang Feiteng, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Cryosphere Science at the Northwest Institute of Ecology, Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a research team to establish a glacier melting zone of about 5,000 meters above sea level in the Dagu Glacier. In the 500-square-meter experimental area, the method of covering the glacier with a quilt is adopted to alleviate the phenomenon of glacier melting.

Don’t think that the quilt covering the glacier is the same as the quilt we usually sleep on. The quilt covering the glacier is a material with excellent heat insulation and reflective effect. This material is used to cover the glacier. The surface can prevent sunlight from directly shining on the glacier surface to a certain extent, reduce the temperature of the glacier, and use artificial means to cool the glacier. After more than two months of observation, it was found that covering glaciers with quilts can really effectively slow down glacier melting. Compared with glaciers that are covered with quilts and glaciers that are not covered with quilts, covering glaciers with quilts can slow down glacier melting. The melting speed reaches one meter. According to preliminary estimates, it can effectively reduce the glacier mitigation speed by about 70%.

This is really exciting news, because if we continue to allow the glaciers to melt at the current rate, then our world will be a vast ocean in the near future. Can humans survive in such an environment? Survival is still a problem. Maybe when this day comes, human beings will really disappear.

So from now on, we start from ourselves, start from the small things around us, care for the environment, protect the environment, and contribute our own strength to our beautiful home!
