The surface of the moon is uneven. How are these pits formed?
In western Greek mythology, the goddess of the moon is called themis. The eldest daughter of Zeus and Leto, the twin sister of Apollo, is one of the twelve gods of Olympus. She is in charge of the moon, hunting, chastity, virgins, nature, forests and beasts, symbolizing the beauty and chastity of women.
In the universe, the moon is the satellite of the earth, and human beings have visited the moon many times.
The real moon is not as glittering and translucent as jade as we see in the dark, but is full of pits of different shapes and sizes. Why?
These are all traces of the moon being hit by meteorites for hundreds of millions of years, but why are there no meteorites in the crater? In fact, these meteorites originated from outer space and just happened to be caught by the gravity of the moon and fell into the moon. They hit the surface of the moon at high speed during the fall, and a huge "shock wave" will be generated at the moment of collision.
The dust generated by the shock wave transmits huge energy and spreads rapidly on the surface of the moon and meteorites. At this time, the meteorite quickly melted and evaporated, while the surface of the moon left traces of shock waves, which were craters of different sizes but definitely larger than the diameter of the meteorite.
Because the shock wave propagates in a circular shape, the crater left behind is circular regardless of the shape of the meteorite that hit the moon.
Compared with the moon, craters are rarely seen on the earth. Do you know why?
Because the moon and the earth are very close, but their weather environment is completely different. The earth has a thick atmosphere. When meteorites haven't reached the surface of the earth, they have a fierce friction with the atmosphere. Some have become smaller, and some have died out directly. It is difficult for those smaller meteorites to form huge craters on the surface of the earth.
Moreover, the geological activities of the earth are very active, and many craters have disappeared in water erosion and geological movement. However, the geological activity of the moon is not active, so most craters have been preserved, and finally the surface of the moon as we know it now has been formed.
So we can live safely on the earth, without too many disasters caused by falling meteorites, thanks to the protection of the earth's surface atmosphere. Then human activities have invaded the natural growth and thickness of the atmosphere, and the harmful gases continuously discharged over time are also consuming the life of the earth.
We should be aware of the seriousness of these consequences. Protecting the earth, nature and atmosphere is the responsibility of every human being, because this is the only home we know at present.
