At 8 o'clock in the morning of July 17, 2023, a drowning accident occurred in the culvert of Pearl Bridge in Zhenjiang City. A woman in her fifties rode an electric car and forced her way into the culvert. She was washed away by the flood caused by the rainstorm and died after being rescued. At present, the cause of the accident is under further investigation.

After the incident, the on-site personnel immediately called the police and tried to rescue them. Fire, public security, medical and other departments quickly rushed to the scene to carry out search and rescue work. After nearly an hour of hard work, the woman was salvaged and sent to the hospital for rescue. However, due to the long drowning time, the woman has no vital signs. At present, the woman's family has arrived at the scene and accepted the aftermath.

Causes and warnings of accidents

According to preliminary investigation, the cause of the accident was that the woman refused to listen to the on-site personnel and insisted on passing through the culvert. Affected by the rainstorm that day, the water accumulated in the culvert reached1.4m, exceeding the height of electric vehicles. Warning signs have been set up in the culvert area, and special personnel are on duty, and no vehicles or pedestrians are allowed to enter.

The woman ignored the warning signs and the discouragement of the on-site personnel and forcibly rushed into the culvert from the motorway. Because of the rapid current, it quickly lost its balance and was washed away by the water.
