Where is the Rock Painting Group of Balda Library?

Balda Kuyang Painting Group

Yumin County is rich in ancient rock paintings, including Qiuqiute rock paintings, Heishantou rock paintings and Hongshiquan rock paintings. The most prominent one is the Kuergu Rock Painting Group in Balda, which is located 23km southwest of Yumin County. On a bare reddish-brown rock slightly higher than the surrounding hills, there are ancient rock paintings with a width of about 1000 meters and a height of about 50 meters, and about 40 places are engraved with more than 500 rock paintings.

According to the latest research by archaeologists in Xinjiang, this rock painting has a history of more than 3600-4000 years. It is the remains of the ancestors of the Turks who lived in this area in ancient times. Its content highlights the ancestors' worship and bold description of reproduction, and reflects the worship of reproduction by ancient local residents and their expectations for the prosperity of tribal peoples. It also vividly reflects the scenes of ancestors' grazing, life and entertainment, and vividly shows the scene of self-sufficient primitive animal husbandry social life at that time. In addition, there are descriptions of horses, cows, sheep, deer, bears and other animals, with beautiful lines, vivid images and special materials, which have high artistic and archaeological value. It is a testimony to the transmission of grassland culture, showing the life imprint of grassland ancestors here and showing a long history. In 2003, the rock painting was included in the fifth batch of cultural relics protection units by the autonomous region.
