What caused a large number of dead fish to float in Jieyang-Hanoi, Guangdong? Is there a problem with the water quality?

Because of the weather or water quality, we occasionally see dead fish by the river. This kind of fish can't be used any more, so as to prevent the toxins in the fish from leaking into the human body.

On May 8, 20021year, law enforcement officers of Jiedong Branch of Jieyang City Ecological Environment Bureau suddenly found a large number of dead fish while inspecting Jiedong section of North Rongjiang River. This large number of dead fish incidents attracted the attention of law enforcement officers. They immediately launched an investigation and reported to their superiors. After receiving the report, Jieyang leaders attached great importance to this matter and conducted a comprehensive investigation of Rongcheng District, Jiedong District, Airport Economic Zone and the rivers under their jurisdiction. In addition, experts from the local eco-environmental protection bureau, agriculture and rural areas, water conservancy and meteorological departments were also convened to study this matter.

After a series of investigations, it was finally determined that the river section with dead fish was from Beihe Bridge in Rongjiang to Shuangxizui, and the dead fish in this incident mainly concentrated in the river section from Louhou Canal in Jieyang to Jiedong District Government. According to the analysis, there are many kinds of fish at the confluence of Rongjiang River in the north, but this time all the fish died of a single species, named grouper, also called leaf fish, which is a kind of estuary fish and likes to appear in groups. From April to June, it is the period when they lay eggs intensively.

The North River of Rongjiang River connects all the places to the sea, with the phenomenon of high tide and low tide. Since the end of last year, Jieyang area has been dry and rainy, and the salinity of water north of Rongjiang River is generally high, so leaffish choose to go upstream. On May, 20021year 17, a sudden rainstorm occurred in the north river area of Rongjiang River. The salinity of the reach decreased with the flow, which is also the reason why the leaffish died in a large area due to the salinity change.

In order to check the water quality in this area, Jieyang City Bureau of Ecology and Environment conducted sampling monitoring on the main stream and related tributaries of Rongjiang Beijiang River. At present, no abnormality has been found in the water quality of this basin. And there are no dead fish in the upper reaches of Beihe Bridge in Jieyang City and in the south river of Rongjiang River. Relevant departments have carried out dead fish salvage and will continue to carry out river section investigation and monitoring.

Therefore, the large number of dead fish in Jieyang Hanoi this time is due to the change of salinity, not the water quality problem.
