The reason why Kunming has four seasons like spring.
Kunming is located in the middle of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the north of Dianchi Basin, with an altitude of 2,000-4,000 meters. The altitude of the city center is above 1 1,800 meters, and we all know that the temperature in the troposphere decreases with the elevation (the temperature drops by 6 degrees every 1 1,000 meters above sea level). Therefore, although Kunming is close to the tropics, when summer enters the midsummer season in most parts of China, the average temperature is almost close to or over 28 degrees.
Kunming, on the other hand, is located between 24 23' and 26 22' north latitude, with large solar altitude angle and strong radiation. In addition, due to the mechanical blocking of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the westerly belt "splits in two" to form a north-south tributary, and the formation of the south tributary has a boosting effect on the activity of the subtropical front, which reduces the wind speed in the leeward area east of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Second, it is influenced by topography, landforms and surrounding mountain environment.
Geographically, Kunming is located in the southwest of China, in a unique location of "bordering Guizhou and Guangxi in the east, India and Pakistan in the west, Thailand and Cambodia in the south and Sichuan and Chongqing in the north". Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the overall terrain is high in the north and low in the south, and gradually decreases from north to south.
Because Kunming is located in the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau with low latitude, it is surrounded by mountains in the east, north and west. On the one hand, Wumeng Mountain and Liangwang Mountain in the north can block the cold air from the north to the south, and the cold air is difficult to cross, resulting in no severe cold and less rain and snow in Kunming in winter.
On the other hand, because the terrain of Kunming is trumpet-shaped and open to the south, the southwest monsoon brings a lot of water vapor from the Indian Ocean in summer, which is caused by the uplift of the terrain. The formation of clouds and rain weakens the solar radiation, and the rain will take away a lot of heat during evaporation, so Kunming is cooler in summer.
Kunming climate
The annual temperature difference in Kunming is small, with the annual average temperature in the urban area around 15℃, the monthly average temperature in the hottest time around 19℃, and the monthly average temperature in the coldest time around 8℃. The highest extreme temperature in recent years is 3 1.2℃, and the lowest is -7.8℃. Because of the suitable temperature and humidity, long sunshine and short frost period, flowers do not wither all year round and vegetation is evergreen all year round, so Kunming has the reputation of "Spring City".
