Information on the deeds of Ye Shengtao and Xiao Fuxing

Ye Shengtao (1894-1988), a modern writer, educator, literary publisher and social activist, is known as an "excellent language artist".

Ye Shengtao's first academic paper on children's literature was titled "The Concept of Children", which criticized the bad influences on Chinese children.

Ye Shengtao was the first author to write fairy tales in the 1920s. His work "The Scarecrow" was published in 1923. This children's book is extremely popular among many teenagers. Another work, "Stone Statues of Ancient Heroes," tells the story of a stone carved into the image of a hero. The moral behind this easy-to-read story is to mock the arrogance of experts and the insensitivity of people.

Ye Shengtao passionately advocates standardizing modern Chinese including standardized grammar, rhetoric, vocabulary, punctuation, simplified characters and the elimination of variant Chinese characters. He also compiled and standardized the Chinese characters for publications and prescribed the Chinese Pinyin scheme. His efforts improved the quality and organization of editorial work.

Ye Shengtao advocated the use of vernacular in the publishing field. Most of his magazines and newspapers use vernacular, which greatly facilitates the reading of reporters and readers. All these contributions have promoted the development of journalism in China.

Xiao Fuxing, born in 1947, is a famous Chinese writer. He is originally from Cangzhou, Hebei Province and now lives in Beijing. In 1968, he joined the Heilongjiang Production and Construction Corps (now Beidahuang Farm Reclamation) as an educated youth. He once served as the editor of "People's Literature" magazine Deputy Editor-in-Chief, columnist and expert of China Net, Information Office of the State Council.

Ye Shengtao changed his name several times. His original name was Ye Shaojun. When he entered Changyuan Wu Public Primary School in Suzhou at the age of 12, he asked his teacher Zhang Boyin to choose a word for his determination to be patriotic and powerful.

Mr. Zhang said: "Your name is Shaojun, and there is a poem called 'Bingguozhijun'. It is better to choose 'Bingchen' as the word." He also taught him that if he wants to be patriotic, he must first love the country and know the meaning of the country. Mountains, rivers, history, places, celebrities and great deeds.

On October 15, 1911, Suzhou was liberated during the Revolution of 1911. The next day, Ye Shaojun went to Mr. Zhang Boyin and said: "The Qing court has been destroyed and the emperor has been overthrown. I can no longer serve as a minister. Please change one word." The gentleman smiled and said, "Your name is Shaojun. There is a poem saying, ' "Saint Tao Jun, everything", let's take "Saint Tao" as the word. "Ye Shaojun left with satisfaction.

On June 10, 1914, Ye Shaojun published the classical Chinese novel "Portrait in the Glass Window" in the second issue of "Novel Series", signed "Sheng Tao". Later, he connected his surname "Ye" with his pen name "Sheng Tao", which became a world-famous pen name.
