Giant water ants (reproductive long-winged termites)

Chinese name: termites

Nickname: Captain Worm, Water Ant

Field: animal kingdom

Phylum: Arthropod phylum

Class: Insecta

Subclass: winged subclass

Order: Isoptera.

Flying ants, also known as giant water ants, are common names for reproductive termites, which usually refer to termites before their wings fall off, but termites are not ants. These winged flying ants are actually "getting married", and they are actually looking for a mate when they fly around.

From April to June every year, winged breeding ants breed in groups, generally flying 5- 10 times, mostly flying out of the nest in the evening before and after sultry or heavy rain. After a short flight, peel off your wings, pair them, and then bury them in a suitable place to build a new nest. Egg laying begins 6-7 days after nesting, and the egg period is about 40 days. If ants develop into worker ants after more than 4 months, they will develop into winged ants after 7-8 months.

Winged adults have phototaxis when they fly away from the population. Often in the evening in groups, flying to bright places. Therefore, light is an indispensable and important condition for termite winged adults to fly away from the old population and establish a new population.

Don't be too afraid of flying ants. Although the number is large, the success rate and survival rate of breeding ants are only one thousandth, so don't worry too much.

Prevent breeding ants from nesting at home

1. When flying ants fly into the room at dusk, close the doors and windows quickly;

2. Put out attractive headlights (fluorescent lamps and other high-intensity lamps) to reduce flying ants flying indoors;

3, found that a small number of flying ants fly into the room, you can put a pot of water under the lamp, ants are often light and wet, will fall into the pot "drowned";

4. Control pests at home, and pesticides that kill cockroaches and mosquitoes can kill those breeding ants.

If flying ants are found constantly flying out of their rooms, it is very likely that termites are nesting in your living room, and you need to find termite control professionals to build low-level treatment.
