My hometown is Shangqiu, Henan. I have a legend about the origin of Shangqiu.

A long time ago, without fire, people had to eat raw food. Later, due to weather reasons such as thunder and lightning, a natural fire was formed. The torches, plants and wild animals were burned to death before they could escape, so people picked them and ate them, and found that cooked food was much more delicious than raw food. From then on, as long as lightning killed plants and wild animals, people came to grab cooked food to eat.

Once, when Di ku (the name of the ancient Emperor Ku) and his son Wei Xiao were patrolling the people, he found that people in one place still ate raw food. Di Ku asked them why they didn't eat cooked food, and the people there said, "There have been several fires, sometimes because the floods washed them away;" Sometimes it is because there is not enough firewood that the fire cannot continue. So Di Ku ordered Wei Xiao to be the local "fire officer". This place became a fief for Wei Xiao, with the title "Shang".
