At about 10:30 on June 4, 2022, the D2809 passenger train from Guiyang north to Guangzhou south derailed at the Yuezhai Tunnel entrance before the Rongjiang Station on the Guizhou-Guangzhou Line. The model of this train is CRH2A Harmony EMU. It starts from Guiyang North Railway Station and is planned to stop at Kaili South, Sandu County, Tongren South, Huaihua South, Changsha South, Guangzhou South and other stations before finally arriving at Guangzhou South Railway Station. . The accident resulted in the death of a driver and injuries to a conductor and seven passengers.

According to the on-board data, the driver on duty discovered an abnormality in the line when the train was traveling into the Yuezhai Tunnel before Rongjiang Station. He took emergency braking measures within 5 seconds and the train slid more than 900 meters. . Affected by the accident, all trains from Guiyang North Station to Guangzhou were suspended, and all trains from Guangzhou to Guiyang were delayed.

Seven weather warning messages including heavy rain, thunder and lightning, and heavy fog were issued in the area where the incident occurred, including a red warning signal for heavy rain. Local people said that there have been frequent rainfalls in the area recently, and mudslides have occurred in the mountains near Rongjiang County. At the time of the incident, a tunnel entrance near Rongjiang County collapsed. "Mud and rocks were piled on the railway track. Harmony came, rushed through the mud pile, entered the station crookedly, and hit the platform."
