What climate type does the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River belong to? !
The climate is distributed on the east coast of subtropical continent at 25 ~ 35 north latitude, which is a zone where tropical marine air masses and polar continental air masses alternately control and compete with each other.
Characteristics of this climate: four distinct seasons.
There are also two interesting phenomena in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River: plum rain and summer drought.
Meiyu islands
In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, usually from mid-June to early July every year, the sky is overcast for several days, and the precipitation is continuous, sometimes big and sometimes small. Therefore, there is a popular proverb in southern China: "Rain hits plum blossoms, and there is no sun for forty-five days". Continuous rain, high temperature and high humidity are the main characteristics of plum rain.
Summer drought is
The quasi-static front causing Meiyu has moved to the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and northeast China in early July. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River are controlled by the subtropical high belt, forming an anti-cyclone weather dominated by undercurrent, with long sunshine, strong solar radiation, high temperature and strong evaporation. Crops grow fast, and farmland needs a lot of water. However, due to the single air mass, except for thunderstorms in some areas, there is no big rain area, and generally there is dry and hot summer weather, so it is called "summer drought". In this season, the afternoon temperature in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River generally reaches 33 ~ 35℃, and the high temperature as high as 43 ~ 45℃ appears in some places. Generally, under the control of the western Pacific subtropical high, severe drought is prone to occur when typhoon activity is low.
