Xining has a semi-arid climate on the mainland plateau, with an average annual sunshine 1939.7 hours, an average annual temperature of 7.6℃ and a maximum temperature of 34.6℃, which belongs to the plateau, alpine and cold temperate climate. The average temperature in summer is 17- 19℃, and the climate is pleasant. It is a summer resort and is called "the summer capital of China".

Xining lies between the valleys of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The unique terrain has created a unique climate here and has become an important tourist summer resort. Due to geographical location, altitude and many other factors, Xining has formed a climate without intense heat in summer and ultra-low temperature and cold in winter.

The historical evolution of Xining;

Xining, an ancient plateau city with a long history, is a cultural component of the Yellow River Basin in China. According to archaeological discoveries such as Zhujiazhai Site, Nash Site and Xixingyuan Site in Chengbei District, as early as four or five thousand years ago, human beings produced, lived and multiplied in this land. During the Shang, Zhou, Qin and Han Dynasties, Hehuang area was the center of the ancient Qiang people.

Xiping Pavilion was a military and postal fortress established in the Western Han Dynasty. Shenjue was originally located in Linqiang County, Jincheng County. In the second year of founding ceremony, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (BC 12 1), the Han army moved westward into the Huangshui River Basin, and the Han army built a military stronghold in Huo Qubing, which was the beginning of the organizational system in Xining.
