How safe is China?

Recently, Europe seems to be uneasy: a terrorist attack occurred outside the British Parliament Building, a mail bombing occurred at the International Monetary Fund office in France, and an axe-wielding attack occurred at a German train station... 1 Time can be described as a time of panic.

However, at the same time, there is a topic that has aroused heated discussion among many European and American netizens on Quora, the largest SNS Q&A platform in the English-speaking world: "How safe is China?"

This question received more than a hundred answers, including some "popular posts" and "hot posts" with readings exceeding one million or hundreds of thousands. The reporter noticed that foreign netizens from all over the world almost unanimously praised China's public security environment, and many foreign netizens also wrote about their personal experiences that impressed them deeply.

A Quora user named David Riordan wrote, "I have lived in Beijing and Shenyang for almost two years. Before that, I also lived in Ireland, Germany and the United States. At least so far So far, I think China is the safest country. I can't say much from a female perspective, but as a man, I can say that the only time I've ever seen someone in danger in China was when a person was very drunk. "At that time, he posed a threat to the Chinese and us foreigners around him." This short post received more than 1 million views and more than 1,500 "likes".

" I was really scared last time in the park. It was four o'clock in the morning, and I heard a strange noise in the trees behind me. I turned around to investigate and found out that it was An old couple was practicing Tai Chi. Well, then I almost got embarrassing cancer." An American netizen living in China told everyone such a ridiculous experience.

This netizen also gave an example of "***bike sharing" which has been very popular in China recently. The destruction of shared bicycles has recently caused a lot of controversy in Chinese society, and the voice of "Chinese people have low quality" has once again erupted frequently. However, this is not the case at all in the eyes of this American netizen, "You only need to leave the bicycles on the roadside or in the park, instead of having to store them in a high-security bicycle station. People don't steal bicycles. , or at least the theft is not serious enough to bankrupt the company. I can't imagine this model operating anywhere in the world, even in the United States and Europe. p>This female netizen named Lom Harshni wrote, "A taxi driver in Shenzhen once told me why taxis in Shenzhen are very safe even at midnight, because there are many cameras on the streets, and only crazy people dare to Do bad things. My daughter is now 11 years old, and I can finally let her take the subway by herself. In many other countries, I would never dare to do this." This netizen's words also made the female reporter very upset. I lamented that it turns out that things that are extremely common for Chinese women, such as taking a walk at night and wearing whatever clothes they want to wear, are so precious to women in many other countries.

Many netizens also posted statistics showing that China is one of the 30 countries with the lowest murder rate in the world. Most of the countries that are safer than China are countries or regions with very small territories, which are not nearly as difficult to govern as China.

China is very safe, especially for foreigners. I travel a lot in China and carry expensive camera equipment, both in big cities and remote places, and 100 RMB is a lot of money in remote areas. I hiked, hitchhiked, and was arrested for unknowingly walking into a military zone.

In all my time in China, I have not even been robbed.

I have know friends and people who have had problems always due to obviously very risky behavior e.g. going to very (!) shady nightclubs and massage parlors. Yet even they do not see China as dangerous. And even in these places the danger is to your purse not to life and limb.

The biggest danger is the traffic so always expect the unexpected. If you do so even as a woman you will always be safe.

The biggest danger is traffic, so be prepared. If you stay vigilant, you are very safe even if you are a woman.

It depends on what you think is safe and who is safe?

If we talk about violent crime, then China is safer than any densely populated place in the world. You don't have to be a woman to walk in the shabbiest of neighborhoods at night.

Theft is common, and there are also many purse snatchers, usually on motorcycles. There are also pickpockets, and people who cut bags with razor blades, which is why you see so many Chinese people carrying their bags in front, they see people who are interested in what’s in their bags

Scams shakedowns and extortion are common.

Human trafficking is a big problem. Kidnapping of girls who are sold as wives happens more than any Chinese will likely admit but it tends not to be kidnapping off the street in a big city.< /p>

Food and water safety is DEFINITELY suspect. Chemicals added to baby's milk to extend the milk volume and make more profit is just one example that got very public.

Common ones include fraud and extortion. and blackmail.

Human trafficking is a big problem. Many Chinese people admit that some young girls will be kidnapped and sold to others as wives, but these things will not happen on the streets of big cities.

There is definitely a problem with the safety of food and water. There are chemical additives in infant milk powder in order to increase the nitrogen content in the milk powder (this should be the meaning of the expression, Sanlu's stem) in order to make huge profits. This is an example that has been made public.

The air in many places is unsafe. Even though China claims good air quality, if you compare it to any other international pollution chart, you will find that what is considered good weather in China is considered a major health hazard in other countries.

Industrial pollution causes cancer, childhood asthma, and other health problems, and they are getting worse.

A large number of motorcycles and pedestrians died in traffic accidents in China. Compared with the world, China has more frequent traffic accidents.

China also has a number of epidemics such as avian influenza and SARS. These diseases may arise and spread rapidly, but the environment does not improve. And there is always the possibility of other infectious diseases emerging.

I have lived in China for 14 years distributed amongst 4 cities in different parts of the country and visited many others cities.

I am a woman and whether it is Shanghai the bustling metropolis or Chongqing a much more 'Chinese' city in the South West or Shenzhen where I live now I've never been teased on the street ogled or leered at or forget about being groped. I have had to walk home from metro stations at weird hours of night sometimes but have never felt scared.

I am a woman, no matter in the bustling metropolis of Shanghai, Or in Chongqing, which is more "Chinese" in the southwest, or in Shenzhen, where I live now, I have never been teased, ogled or leered on the street, let alone molested. I sometimes walked home from the subway station in the middle of the night, but I never felt scared.

A taxi driver once told me the reason why taxi in Shenzhen is safe even at 1 am at night- 'there are so many cameras around on the streets. It would have to be a mad person to try to do something.'

Once a taxi driver told me why it was so safe to take a taxi in Shenzhen at 1 o'clock at night. Because there are too many cameras on the street. Only crazy people want to cause trouble.

The young girls here can literally get away with wearing anything and NOONE seems to pay them ANY attention on the street.

My daughter is 11 years old and recently I have started allowing her to take the metro on her own when needed. I wouldn't dare do this in many other countries.

Sure I've heard about pick pockets and the like but as far being 'safe' on the street is concerned China has to be one of the safest countries in the world today.

Of course I've heard of pickpockets and similar things, but in terms of "safety" on the streets, China has to be one of the safest countries in the world today.
