What is the nightmare of Poyang Lake?

The water in the Laoye Temple in Poyang Lake is the blessed land of Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of Ming Dynasty in China. It is said that Zhu Yuanzhang got help from the python and escaped the pursuit of Chen Youliang. However, for many others, the water in the old temple is a nightmare. Throughout the ages, I don't know how many people and ships have disappeared here. What is even more strange is that the "bodies" of these ships and people are gone.

Poyang Lake, located in the north of Jiangxi Province, is the largest freshwater lake in China. This lake is likened to a "treasure gourd tied to the Yangtze River", swallowing the water of Ganjiang River, Xinjiang River, Pojiang River (Raohe River), Hexiu River and Fuhe River and spitting the water of the Yangtze River. On the neck of this gourd, there is an ancient temple. Near the old temple, there is a triangular water area, with a total length of 24 kilometers, from Songmen Mountain in the south to Xing Zi County in the north. This water area is called the waters of Laoye Temple because it is close to Laoye Temple.

In the waters of Laoye Temple, the lake is about 3 kilometers wide, 30 meters deep and 40 meters deep. There is no reef at the bottom of the lake. On the surface, this water area is no stranger. However, this seemingly ordinary lake has hidden dangers. ...

1April 6, 945, a 2000-ton Japanese invasion ship "Kobe 9" suddenly disappeared mysteriously while driving to the waters of Laoyemiao. At that time, there were more than 200 people on board, and none of them survived. A few days later, the Japanese navy stationed in Jiujiang sent people to the missing waters of the transport ship to search for the missing ships and personnel. Who knows, only one diver survived in the water, and the surviving diver lost his mind after taking off his diving suit. Other divers were buried at the bottom of the lake.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Edward Bohr, a famous American diving expert, was invited to salvage Japanese transport ships in the waters of Laoyemiao. In fact, for Bohr, this salvage was not a pleasant experience-except for him, his companions disappeared at the bottom of the lake one by one. Bohr has always been reluctant to disclose any information about this salvage. It was not until 40 years later that he revealed his experience. He said that he and his companions did not find "Kobe 9" after they got into the water, but were attacked by a dazzling white light, which revealed a powerful force and led to their death. He was able to get away with it because of "a big box", and the impact with that big box woke him up. After waking up, Bohr struggled to compete with the attraction of white light and finally struggled out of the water, but his companion was gone. ...

Since then, shipwrecks have often occurred here, and the waters around Poyang Lake, also known as "devil's waters", have become a frightening place.

According to legend, when Zhu Yuanzhang and Chen Youliang attacked Poyang Lake, Zhu Yuanzhang was defeated and retreated to the lake. At that time, Chen Youliang led the warships, followed closely. Chen Youliang was on the verge of catching up with Zhu Yuanzhang when suddenly a huge catfish surfaced and stood in his way. Chen Youliang ordered the giant salamander to be shot. The giant salamander dodged the evil arrow and then got under Chen Youliang's boat, making Chen Youliang's boat unable to move forward. Chen Youliang thought the boat ran aground, so he ordered people to support it with bamboo poles, but the boat still didn't move. Chen Youliang was very worried when he saw Zhu Yuanzhang's ship drifting away, so he ordered the shelling. Unexpectedly, this shot really hit Zhu Yuanzhang's ship.

At this time, the giant salamander hurried out from the bottom of Chen Youliang's boat and swam to Zhu Yuanzhang's boat to help Zhu Yuanzhang cross the lake. With its help, Zhu Yuanzhang successfully escaped Chen Youliang's pursuit. Later, Zhu Yuanzhang defeated Chen Youliang and won the world. After Zhu Yuanzhang proclaimed himself emperor, he named the giant catfish "General Yuan" and built the "Dingjiang King Temple" for it to enjoy the incense forever. Since then, people have called this giant salamander "Dingjiang King Bodhisattva", and the locals have called "Dingjiang King Temple" "Grandpa Temple". The temple site is on the lake where the giant salamander helped Zhu Yuanzhang escape from danger that day. Walking into the temple gate, a giant salamander lay prone on the ground. On the back, there is a stone tablet weighing1000kg, on which Zhu Yuanzhang inscribed "Yingyuan general print".

According to folklore, all the shipwrecks in Poyang Lake are related to this giant salamander. In order to get the protection of giant salamanders, people always go ashore to burn incense and paper and slaughter livestock to show their respect when sailing here. Therefore, the incense in the Laoye Temple is extremely strong. However, even if people are so pious, the tragedy of shipwreck death still happens from time to time. These sunken ships seem to have nothing to do with General Yun, who was sacrificed in the old temple. So how did these things happen?

In order to solve the mystery of the shipwreck in the waters of Laoye Temple, 1984, the Jiangxi provincial government organized an expedition composed of naturalists, meteorologists, geological experts and relevant scientific researchers to investigate and study the waters of Laoye Temple. The expedition team found that most of the wrecked ships were swept away by the sudden surge of the lake, and most of the shipwrecks occurred in the alternating seasons of spring and summer. The locals who are familiar with the waters of the Laoye Temple also said that the weather in this water area changes very quickly, and the wind and waves will come, accompanied by thick black fog. If the ship appears at this time, it will be towed to the bottom of the lake. A few minutes later, the storm ended and everything was calm again, as if nothing had happened.

The expedition found nothing but the above information. And they are getting more and more puzzled. Why does the weather here change so fast? Where did the wind and waves come from here?

After several years of hard work, scientists finally unveiled the mystery of the devil's waters. The hydrological situation in Devil's waters is quite complicated. The waters of Laoye Temple and the South Lake of Poyang Lake (bounded by Songmen Mountain, Poyang Lake is divided into two lakes) are separated by Jishan Island and Songmen Island, which straddle Poyang Lake. The north branch of Ganjiang River and Xiuhe River flow into the waters of Laoyemiao from the west side of Jishan Mountain, while the middle branch, south branch, Xinjiang River and Fuhe River flow into the waters of Laoyemiao from the east side of Songmen Mountain via South Lake. Such a strong current meets in the waters of Laoyemiao, which leads to the disorder of water flow in the waters and the formation of whirlpool. South Lake of Poyang Lake, the lake is wide, the drop is not big, and the water is slow. After reaching the "Gourd Neck"-the waters of Laoyemiao, the waterway suddenly narrows, the water flow speed increases by 5 to 7 times, and the main trough area will also produce a vortex, which increases the danger of this water area.

In addition, the strong wind in the sea area of Laoyemiao is the main factor causing the shipwreck. According to the observation results of meteorological technicians, the number of windy days (≥8) in the waters of Laoyemiao is as many as 163 days, the maximum wind force is 16, and the wind speed can reach 200 kilometers per hour. These strong winds are related to the narrow lakes in the waters of Lushan Mountain and Laoyemiao in the northwest of Poyang Lake. After the north wind reached Poyang Lake, the southeast peak of Lushan Mountain compressed the airflow, and the compressed airflow speed accelerated. After reaching the waters of Laoye Temple, the wind speed further increased due to the narrow lake surface. Therefore, from September every year to May the following year, when the wind in Poyang Lake is strong, there is a greater possibility of shipwreck.

After investigation by geological experts, it is found that the underground of Laoyemiao water area is composed of limestone, which is easy to dissolve and easily form large underground caves and underground rivers, and each cave and underground river has its own abrupt electromagnetic field directly above it. After measurement, it is found that the strange electromagnetic field here is chaotic and easily interferes with people's thinking, which explains the reasons for the mental problems of Japanese divers after they came out of the water at that time, and also explains Bohr's saying that thinking is out of control.

It is also said that the "monster" in the lake attacked the ship. Because the local people have a strong sense of protecting the animals in the lake, they even offer sacrifices to these animals such as chickens and ducks, so the animals in the lake grow bigger and bigger, and they are not afraid of people, and sometimes even attack passing ships. There was an incident in which a big fish chased a passenger ship. At that time, the fish head was hit by a propeller, which caused the passenger ship to vibrate violently. If the fish hadn't hit its head on the propeller, the passenger ship might have capsized.

Although these statements seem to explain the cause of the shipwreck, there are still some things that cannot be explained. For example, people once salvaged the bottom of the lake and found that there was no sunken ship in Fiona Fang dozens of miles below the devil's waters. Where did the wrecked ship go? And what is the big box mentioned in Bohr's memory? None of these questions have been answered. In addition, people also found that no matter from which angle people look at this old temple, they will feel face to face with it.

It seems that there are still many unsolved mysteries near the waters of Laoye Temple. I hope that the day to solve the mystery will come soon.
