Lingtai Temple, the Ming Temple in eastern Henan

Lingtai Temple, located at 0/5km east of Shangqiu Ancient City, is adjacent to Beijing-Kowloon Railway in the west and Mulan Avenue in the north. The Shahe River in front of the temple flows quietly and is surrounded by dense ecological parks. It is an excellent place for people to travel, pick and blend.

Lingtai Temple is also called Longtai Temple. According to legend, a long time ago, this area was a forest, where thousands of ghost birds lived. Every morning, ghost birds fly out of the forest and sing in the surrounding villages, urging people to get up early. It was as hot as fire at noon, people took a nap in the forest, and birds sang tactfully, which eased people's summer heat. More importantly, the Lingbird can also tell the farming situation in a year and predict the weather changes. Therefore, people respectfully call her a spirit bird. Later, a black dragon flew from far away and occupied the forest. This is cruel, causing great damage and poisoning life. Lingniao United as one, went through hardships, killed the people, and finally drove away the black dragon, but Lingniao also paid a heavy price. In order to thank Lingbi, the local people buried many Lingbi's bodies together and built a high mound called Lingtai. After the defeat, the black dragon was taken in by the Buddha in the Western Heaven, converted to Buddhism, turned over a new leaf and determined to benefit the people. One night, the dark clouds rolled, the wind blew and the rain poured down, and the black dragon danced over the platform. The next day, after the rain cleared, the surrounding villagers found that a magnificent temple with resplendent and magnificent halls miraculously appeared on the platform of golden pine and cypress.

Lingtai is the site of Longshan culture. According to records, during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was a heaped-up mountain with an observatory for observing celestial phenomena. The princes all died of illness, and many doctors died here. According to the historical records of "Liang Xiaowang Family", "In front of the park 154, Liu Wushou, the younger brother of Emperor Jing of Han Dynasty, made great contributions to breaking the chaos of the Seven Kingdoms, and built the East Garden in Suiyang, with a width of 70 miles and a distance of 300 miles in Fiona Fang. Daye Palace is a complicated road, which is connected with the Palace and built on a platform for more than 30 miles. This is Wang Liang Garden. " According to Shangqiu County Records, "Lingtai Temple was built on the Lingtai in the east of the city and was built in the second year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty." The hall of Lingtai Temple is resplendent and magnificent. Painted with carved beams and painted buildings, golden baskets and glazed tiles, exquisite and shiny. The gate of the temple is unique in shape, beautifully carved and brightly colored. On the door hung the inscription "Lingtai Temple" by Zhao Puchu, former chairman of the Buddhist Association. There is a Buddha statue in the hall, and there is one in the middle, which is made of brass and weighs about 2000 kilograms. Eighteen arhats are different in shape and lifelike. The east wing is commensurate with the west wing, with three mountain gates and four heavenly kings each holding a sharp weapon. On the beam, dragons are coiled, on the beam, there are thunder gods and lightning generals, and on the bottom, there are dragon claws to catch an unfilial man and woman.

Throughout the ages, every year on March 15th, the incense assembly is huge and packed with people. In Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Anhui, people and merchants gathered, and good men and women came from all directions to burn incense and worship: some paid homage to the Buddha's appearance, paid homage to Lingtai ancient temple, and recalled the beautiful scenery of Liangyuan; Some come to confess their mistakes and pray for forgiveness; More is to pray for the blessing of the Buddha, avoid disasters and avoid wealth, and be lucky.

Due to historical reasons, Lingtai Temple has suffered several disasters and been restored several times. According to Shi Dun, "This hall was rebuilt in the eleventh year of Zhengde in Ming Dynasty." According to the original tablet, it was rebuilt in the 13th year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty. In the early days of liberation, the temple was destroyed and rebuilt. 1982 temple and lingtai site were named as key cultural relics protection units by the government.

Today's Lingtai Temple is not only an ancient Lingtai site for people to mourn, a thousand-year-old temple, but also that beautiful legend.
