The International Status of Fengyun Meteorological Satellite

FY-2 satellite system, on the whole, is equivalent to the technical level of the geostationary meteorological satellite currently in use in the world. Although China still lags behind in some basic and key technologies, China has done better than other countries in some aspects. At the same time, it is an indisputable fact that China has the fastest catching-up momentum and progress speed, which is internationally recognized. China has reached the level of international satellites in orbit in a relatively short period of time, which has earned China respect in the field of meteorology.

Fengyun-2 satellite occupies an important position in the global meteorological satellite observation network, and satellite observation in the whole East Asia, especially in the Indian Ocean and Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, used to be a very weak area. China Fengyun-2 satellite is located at 15 degrees east longitude, and its position determines that it is an indispensable part of the whole earth observation system, and the observation data it obtains is a contribution to the international meteorological community and even the earth science community. In the space plan of the World Meteorological Organization, Fengyun-2 satellite is listed as the backbone operational satellite and undertakes the obligation of global weather and climate observation. In the last century, China's meteorological satellite application mainly relied on foreign satellite data. Now there are not only independent satellites, but also data sharing and data services for foreign countries. In popular terms, it means that people used to use others in the past but now they use us, which reflects great changes, which also establishes China's position in the World Meteorological Organization.

More and more countries and regions in the world use Fengyun-2 satellite data, and the evaluation is also very positive. For example, Australia, Japan, the United States, Europe and some countries in Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Province, are using Fengyun-2 satellite data.

advantages of double-star observation

after the launch of the C star on October 19th, 24, Fengyun-2 D star was launched on December 8th, 26 after a lapse of two years. These two satellites are just like people's eyes for meteorological observation. So why not have one satellite in the sky? Why do we need two satellites? There are two advantages of two-satellite observation:

First, because of its unmaintainability and high risk, satellites in orbit will inevitably have on-orbit faults or failures, but it takes a long time to organize a satellite launch. If there is a star in the sky and it suddenly breaks down, the meteorological service will be interrupted. Therefore, the first function of the binary star is to realize on-orbit backup and ensure uninterrupted meteorological services.

second, two stars can be observed at the same time, which is not a cold backup, but a hot backup concept. The advantages of simultaneous observation are: in space, the monitoring range can be expanded. From the time point of view, each satellite observes the earth every half hour. If the half hour is staggered, for example, this satellite starts observing at 1: 3 and the next satellite starts observing at 1: 45, so that the time interval is shortened to 15 minutes, so that the weather process can be seen every 15 minutes in overlapping areas. The practical work shows that the 15-minute encrypted observation of double stars has a very obvious effect on weather forecast, because many small and medium-sized weather systems develop very fast, especially in flood season, and these important weather processes will be missed if the observation time interval is too long. For example, some local heavy rainfall lasts only ten minutes, and we can better capture these processes after binary observation. The animation technology of double-star overlapping area is excellent, which is a bright spot in the application of Fengyun-2 satellite.
