What are the symptoms of spinal degeneration? What do you know specifically?
The spine is a very important skeletal structure of the human body. Once there is a problem with this bone structure, systemic diseases will occur, which is extremely harmful to human health. Middle-aged and elderly people are very susceptible to spinal degenerative diseases. The symptoms of spinal degenerative diseases are mild in the early stages and are not easily discovered. When they can be noticed, they are basically more serious. What are the symptoms of degenerative diseases of the spine? What should I do?
1. Pain and numbness. When degenerative spinal disease begins, patients experience lower back pain and numbness. This pain starts out a bit like overexertion pain, and then the pain gradually gets worse, even directly affecting the patient's movements and seriously affecting daily life. Patients may also feel numbness and tingling at the ends of their limbs, which generally does not last long and is mostly intermittent.
2. Limit movement. Spinal degenerative diseases include degenerative diseases of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, so when patients suffer from such diseases, they may experience symptoms of limited mobility in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Healthy people have large bone movement angles and usually do not feel pressure or pain during exercise. However, once degenerative disease occurs, the movement angle will become smaller during exercise, and there will be obvious pressure and pain.
3. Muscle spasm. Symptoms of spinal degeneration may show signs of nerve compression as the condition gradually progresses, such as pain and numbness in the lower limbs and sciatica, and intermittent claudication. In addition, it may also show signs of urinary and fecal dysfunction, as well as urinary and fecal dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, etc., so these symptoms are corresponding manifestations of spinal degeneration.
Spinal degeneration can be divided into four stages:
Stage 1: There is aseptic inflammation between the vertebral bodies, and the patient will have symptoms of pain. There are no permanent changes such as bone spurs or disc degeneration at this stage, and there is less chance of nerve root compression. It usually begins before the age of 25.
The second stage: the intervertebral disc degenerates slightly, bone spurs begin to appear a little, and the patient will experience joint stiffness, occasional dizziness, headache, and numbness in the hands and feet. Neck pain and stiff neck are common; joint stiffness will be felt after getting up in the morning, which can only be relieved with certain activities. Sitting for long periods of time can cause back pain; doing computer work can lead to fatigue, upper back pain, and spine-related diseases. This stage mostly occurs between the ages of 25 and 45. The focus of this stage is the adjustment of living and working styles. Physical therapy can be performed when symptoms are severe, and symptomatic treatment drugs can be taken during the acute stage. If there is a tendency to be unstable or unstable, it is recommended to avoid massage.
The third stage: intervertebral disc degeneration intensifies, bone spurs proliferate significantly, the above symptoms become more severe, and intermittent attacks turn into persistent attacks. Especially the increasing number of vertebrae associated with various vertebrae. Most of them are between 45 and 65 years old. Seek medical attention promptly and receive systemic treatment.
The fourth stage: more than one intervertebral disc disappears completely, bone spurs begin to bridge, and various symptoms continue to be severe. As the disc thins, there is an increasing likelihood of nerve root compression. When the intervertebral disc disappears completely, if the spine compresses the nerve roots, the spine cannot be reset and surgery can only be performed. If the nerves are not compressed, the spine will not compress the nerves. However, the last or next disc to this one will degrade at a faster rate and more nerve roots will be disturbed. Generally this stage occurs over the age of 65. This stage has the greatest impact on people’s health and longevity.
