Unsolved mystery: Why did Emperor Kangxi not build a mausoleum for Empress Xiaozhuangwen?
The Long'en Hall on the top of the double-eaves verandah. The Long'en Hall in the Zhaoxi Mausoleum can be said to be the most unique among the Qing mausoleums. Uniquely, Long'en Hall has a double-eaves verandah roof, which is unique among Qing mausoleums. Why Zhaoxi Mausoleum has this special feature? The author analyzes that this is directly related to the origin of this building. This Long'en Hall was probably the palace where Empress Xiaozhuangwen lived during her lifetime. When Empress Xiaozhuang was alive, Emperor Kangxi A five-room palace was specially built for her grandmother on the east side of Cining Palace. After Empress Xiaozhuang moved into her new residence, she felt very comfortable and praised the palace for its well-built property many times in front of the emperor. Queen Zhuang Wen died of illness. In order to show his filial piety and allow his grandmother to live happily, Emperor Kangxi ordered the newly built palace to be dismantled and transported to the temporary enshrinement hall in Changrui Mountain in Zunhua to be rebuilt as it was. At the same time, this can also save expenses and shorten the construction period, which can be said to kill three birds with one stone. Emperor Kangxi attached great importance to the temporary installation of the temple, and selected smart and capable officials from various ministries to form the engineering office. From the proportions of the palace site, the design and drawing of the drawings, to the dismantling, transportation, construction and many other key aspects, Emperor Kangxi gave detailed instructions. When dismantling and transporting the materials for the palace, Emperor Kangxi told the officials in charge of the project to properly protect the various components to avoid damage. When breaking the ground and digging trenches, Emperor Kangxi repeatedly warned that the weather was very cold and construction was inconvenient, so the foundation must be solid. Under the attention and guidance of Emperor Kangxi, the temporary enshrinement project started in the first month of the 27th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign. After intensive construction, it was completed by the end of March. It only took three months, which is extremely fast. The Temporary Anfeng Hall is a group of buildings, mainly including the palace gate, the Xiang Hall, the Temporary An Yong Palace, etc., surrounded by walls. The original dormitory was probably built on top of a verandah with double eaves, so the Longen Hall in Zhaoxi Mausoleum was also topped with a verandah with double eaves. Why is there a pagoda on the main ridge of the main hall of Zhaoxi Mausoleum? Second, there is a pagoda in the middle of the main ridge of Longen Hall. This is the only one among the Qing Mausoleums. The first person to discover this strange phenomenon was Professor Wang Qiheng of Tianjin University. He discovered it from an old photo. The author analyzes that this may be related to Empress Xiaozhuangwen's devout belief in Buddhism. We know that many Buddhist temples have this kind of pagoda on the main ridge of the main hall, such as the Main Hall of Puning Temple in Chengde, the Puguangming Hall of Yongfu Temple in Xiling, etc. But the main hall of the mausoleum is not a Buddhist temple after all. Why is a pagoda installed on the main ridge of the hall? If this main hall is the original palace of Empress Xiaozhuangwen to the east of Cining Palace, then is there also this pagoda on the main ridge of the original palace? Why were the two concubines Gongjing and Shuhui suspended? The coffins of Emperor Shunzhi's Concubine Gongjing and Concubine Shuhui, who were buried in the Xiaodong Tomb, were moved from the Temporary Anfeng Hall. This shows that the two concubines died after their death. Later, the coffin was parked in the temporary enshrinement hall. Seven concubines were buried in the Xiaodong Mausoleum. Among them, Concubine Duan, Concubine Zhen, and Concubine Ke were buried in the Concubine Garden at the foot of Huanghua Mountain. Concubines Duan Shun and Concubine Ning were buried in Cao Bali in the northern suburbs of Beijing. Tun. Why did Concubine Gongjing and Concubine Shuhui have to stay in the Temporary Anfeng Hall? Is it because these two concubines came from the Borjigit family in Mongolia at that time and belonged to the same family as Empress Xiaozhuangwen? In particular, Concubine Shuhui is the sister of Empress Xiaohui and the grandniece of Empress Xiaozhuangwen. They are close relatives. It is because of this relationship that the two concubines are buried in the temporary enshrinement hall? However, Concubine Miao and Concubine Duanshun also came from this Mongolian family. Concubine Miao's father, Manzhu Xili, was the younger brother of Empress Xiaozhuang Wen, and Concubine Miao was the niece of Empress Xiaozhuang Wen. The relationship is even closer than that between Concubine Shu Hui and Empress Xiaozhuang Wen. Why not also enshrine the mourning concubine in the Temporary Anfeng Hall? In addition, during the period when the two concubines, Concubine Gongjing and Concubine Shuhui, were in the temporary enshrinement hall, did they park their coffins together with the coffin of Empress Xiaozhuangwen, or did they park them somewhere else? These are still unsolved mysteries.
