What is the abnormal weather in 2022?
Contrary to the warming of the sea water in the central and eastern Pacific caused by El Nino, La Nina is an abnormal cooling of the sea water in the central and eastern Pacific. The southeast wind blows the seawater heated by the sun to the western Pacific Ocean, making the sea level in the west nearly 60 cm higher than that in the east. The sea water temperature in the west rises, the air pressure decreases, the humid air accumulates to form typhoons and tropical storms, and the colder sea water in the east turns up, resulting in the cold sea water in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
The atmospheric circulation over the Pacific Ocean is called Walker circulation. When the Walker circulation weakens, the seawater cannot blow to the west, and the seawater in the eastern Pacific Ocean warms, which is the El Ni? o phenomenon. But when the Walker circulation became extremely strong, La Nina phenomenon happened. La Nina usually follows the El Ni? o phenomenon. La Nina will appear in the second year of El Ni? o, sometimes lasting for two or three years.
Due to global warming, Arctic glaciers melt, and cold fresh water flows offshore, which leads to La Nina phenomenon and frequent snowstorms in recent years (2009-20 1 1).
affect
La Nina will lead to global climate anomalies. The impacts include: extreme drought in the southwestern United States and the west coast of South America, extremely high rainfall in Southeast Asia such as Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, and extremely cold in the west and southeast coasts of Africa, Taiwan Province Province, Japan and the Korean Peninsula. In the northwest Pacific, the area affected by tropical cyclones will be south-west than normal.
In addition, the subtropical high will be stronger than normal, causing tropical cyclones to move west to west-northwest, and more tropical cyclones will appear in the Philippines and the South China Sea.
Interestingly, once La Nina phenomenon appears, hurricanes in the North Atlantic will be extremely active. For example, in the Atlantic hurricane season in 2005, there were four rare hurricanes with the highest intensity, namely, Hurricane Emily, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita, Hurricane Weimar and Hurricane Mitch in the early Atlantic hurricane season of 1998, which caused heavy casualties and property losses in North America and Central America.
