1. "Send Meng Haoran off at the Yellow Crane Tower" "Guangling"

Tang Dynasty: Li Bai

The old friend bid farewell to the Yellow Crane Tower in the west, and fireworks descended from Yangzhou in March.

The shadow of the lone sail in the distance is gone in the blue sky, and only the Yangtze River can be seen flowing in the sky.

Translation

My friend said goodbye to me at the Yellow Crane Tower, and went on a long trip to Yangzhou in March when catkins were like smoke and flowers were blooming. The silhouette of the lone boat and sail gradually disappeared at the end of the blue sky, and only the rolling Yangtze River was seen rushing towards the sky.

About the author

Li Bai (701-762), courtesy name Taibai and Qinglian Jushi, was a romantic poet of the Tang Dynasty and was hailed as the "Immortal of Poetry" by later generations. His ancestral home is Longxi Chengji (to be tested). He was born in Suiye City in the Western Regions. He moved to Mianzhou, Jiannan Road with his father when he was 4 years old. Li Bai has more than a thousand poems and essays in existence, and the "Collection of Li Taibai" has been handed down to the world. He died of illness in 762 at the age of 61.

Creative background

When Li Bai lived in Anlu, he met Meng Haoran, who was twelve years older than him, and they soon became close friends. In March of 730 AD (the eighteenth year of Kaiyuan), Li Bai learned that Meng Haoran was going to Guangling (now Yangzhou, Jiangsu), and asked Meng Haoran to meet him in Jiangxia (now Wuchang District, Wuhan City). A few days later, Meng Haoran sailed eastward, and Li Bai personally sent him to the riverside. When bidding farewell, I wrote this song "Farewell to Meng Haoran at the Yellow Crane Tower in Guangling".

2. "Looking at the Lushan Waterfall"

Tang Dynasty: Li Bai

The incense burner in Rizhao produces purple smoke, and you can see the waterfall hanging in front of the river in the distance.

The flying stream falls three thousand feet, and it is suspected that the Milky Way has fallen into the sky.

Translation

Under the sunlight, purple haze rises from Xianglu Peak, and from a distance, the waterfall looks like white silk hanging in front of the mountain. The waterfall flying straight down on the high cliff seems to be thousands of feet long, like the Milky Way falling from the sky to the cliff.

Creation background

This poem is generally believed to have been written by Li Bai when he first visited Mount Lu on his way to Jinling around 725 AD (the thirteenth year of Emperor Xuanzong's founding of the Tang Dynasty).

3. "A Gift to Wang Lun"

Tang Dynasty: Li Bai

Li Bai was about to set off in a boat when he suddenly heard singing on the shore.

The water in Peach Blossom Pond is a thousand feet deep, and it is not as deep as Wang Lun’s gift to me.

Translation

Li Bai was about to leave in a boat when he suddenly heard the sound of singing from the shore. Even if the water in Peach Blossom Pond is a thousand feet deep, it can't compare with Wang Lun's sentiments for sending me off.

Creation background

This poem was written by Li Bai when he traveled from Qiupu to Taohuatan in Jingxian County (now part of Anhui) in the 14th year of Tianbao reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty (755). When Li Bai visited Peach Blossom Pond in Jing County (in today's Anhui Province), he forged a deep friendship with Wang Lun. During the Tianbao period of Kaiyuan, Wang Lun was the magistrate of Jing County, and Li Bai "went to wait for him, and he couldn't bear to say goodbye". This poem may have been written by Li Bai when Wang Lun was already living in Peach Blossom Pond.

4. "I heard that Wang Changling moved to the left and Longbiao was far away and sent this message"

Tang Dynasty: Li Bai

When the poplar flowers have fallen, the child cries, and I hear that Longbiao has passed by. Wuxi.

I send my sorrowful heart to the bright moon and follow you until the end of the night.

Translation

When the Yang flowers are falling and Zigui is crowing, I heard that you were demoted to Long Biaowei and had to pass through Wuxi. I put my sad thoughts on the bright moon, hoping to accompany you to the west of Yelang with the wind.

Creative background

This song "I heard that Wang Changling moved to the left and sent this message to Long Biaoyuan" was probably written in 753 AD (the twelfth year of Tianbao by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty). At that time, Wang Changling was demoted from Jiangning Cheng to Lieutenant of Longbiao County (now Qianyang County, Hunan Province). Li Bai wrote this poem after hearing that his friend was demoted in Yangzhou.

5. "Looking at Tianmen Mountain"

Tang Dynasty: Li Bai

Tianmen interrupts the opening of the Chu River, and the clear water flows eastwards to this point.

The green mountains on both sides of the strait stand out from each other, and the lone sail comes from the sun.

Translation

The Yangtze River is like a giant ax splitting open the majestic Tianmen Peak, and the green river water flows eastward and swirls here. The beautiful scenery of the green mountains on both sides of the Taiwan Strait is indistinguishable, and you can see a solitary boat coming from the horizon.

Creation background

"Looking at Tianmen Mountain" was written in 725 AD (the thirteenth year of Kaiyuan) when Li Bai first left Bashu and took a boat to Jiangdong via Dangtu (now part of Anhui) and traveled to Tianmen. Mountain, I made this from my impression when I first saw Tianmen Mountain.

2. An ancient poem with seven character quatrains

1. "April in the Village" by Southern Song Dynasty poet Weng Juan. Original text: The mountains are green and the rivers are white, and the rain is like smoke in the sound of the rules.

There are few idle people in the countryside in April, so they are planting sericulture and planting fields. Vernacular interpretation: The hillsides and fields are lush with vegetation, and the color of the water in the rice fields complements the skylight.

There is mist and rain in the sky, cuckoos are singing, and the earth is a prosperous scene. April is here, and no one is idle. They just finished sericulture and have to plant rice seedlings again.

2. "Book on the Wall of Mr. Huyin" by Wang Anshi, a writer and politician in the Northern Song Dynasty. Original text: The eaves are long and swept clean without moss, and the flowers and trees are planted by hand. A river of water protects the fields and surrounds them with green, and two mountains with rows of gates bring in green.

The mulberry strips and neem flowers are numerous in the desert, and the wind collects the lingering fragrance and darkens the wall.

The yellow bird sings several times in the afternoon dream, and I still suspect that I belong to the mountain garden.

Vernacular interpretation: The courtyard of the thatched house is often cleaned, so clean that there is no trace of moss. Flowers, plants and trees are arranged in rows and ridges, all planted by the owner himself.

A small river outside the courtyard protects and surrounds the farmland; two mountains open the door to bring green to people. The mulberry branches are lush and the neem flowers are also very prosperous.

The breeze carries the lingering fragrance of neem flowers quietly across the wall. A few crisp cries of the oriole woke me up from my nap.

When I woke up from the dream, I felt as if I was still in the mid-level garden where I used to live. 3. "Late Spring" by Han Yu in the Tang Dynasty. Original text: The grass and trees know that spring will soon return, and all kinds of red and purple will compete with each other.

The flowering elm pod has no talent and thoughts, but it can only solve the problem of flying blood all over the sky. Interpretation of the vernacular: Flowers, plants and trees know that spring is about to return, and they all want to keep the footsteps of spring, and they are competing for beauty. Even the poplars and elm flowers that have no beautiful colors are not willing to be lonely, dancing with the wind and turning into snow all over the sky.

4. "Mountain Travel" Tang Dynasty: Du Mu Original text: Far up the cold mountain, the stone path is sloping, and there is a home deep in the white clouds. Stop and sit in the maple forest at night, the leaves are as red as the flowers in February due to frost.

The vernacular interpretation is: A winding and sloping path winds up to the top of the mountain, and there are actually several families in the place where the white clouds are floating. I stopped the carriage because I loved the evening view of the maple forest in late autumn. The fiery red maple leaves were redder than the flowers in February in the south of the Yangtze River.

5. "He Dragon Boat Festival" Song Dynasty: Zhang Lei Original text: Jingdu is deeply saddened by thousands of years of injustice, but the loyal soul can be restored once it is gone. After the death of the country and the death of the body, what is there now? Only Li Sao is left in the world.

Vernacular interpretation: The purpose of the dragon boat race is to deeply commemorate Qu Yuan’s eternal injustice. How can the loyal soul be returned after a thousand years have passed? If the country is destroyed and the body is dead, what else can be done now? well! Only the eternal song of Li Sao is left in the world.

I heard that Wang Changling moved to the left and Longbiao was far away and sent this message. Baling sent Li Twelve (white). The poplar flowers have fallen and Zigui cries. I heard that Longbiao has passed the five streams. The swaying Balingzhou is separated from Zhugashi, and the rumors of Qingjiang River are heard.

I send my sorrowful heart to the bright moon and follow you until the end of the night. The mountains are long and there is no autumn city color. At dusk, the sky is full of water and clouds.

Crying for Chao Qingheng and sending off Di Zongheng. Chao Qing of Japan resigned from the imperial capital, and a sail was wrapped around the pot. In autumn, the water is clear and the mountains are full of cicadas. The trees in Luoyang sing and smoke.

The bright moon does not return and sinks into the blue sea, and the white clouds fill the sky with sadness. I am filled with sorrow as I send you back home, and I cherish my time to spend the cool windy day.

Send congratulations to the guests on their return to Vietnam and bid farewell to Li Pingshi. The flowing water of Jinghu Lake is clear and clear, and many crazy guests return to their boats to enjoy themselves. It's hard to say farewell on the Qiujiang River. Tomorrow the boat will be in Chang'an.

If the Shanyin scholars meet each other, they should write "Huang Ting for White Goose". Wu Ji dances slowly, leaving you drunk, and the green maple is white and the dew is cold.

8. A seven-character quatrain poem that describes touching a scene and triggering emotions:

1. People in the past have gone away on yellow cranes, and this place is empty. Yellow Crane Tower. ——Cui Hao of the Tang Dynasty, "Yellow Crane Tower"

2. Feeling grateful for the time, the flowers splash with tears, and the hateful birds are frightened. ——Du Fu's "Spring Hope" in the Tang Dynasty

3. Last year, today, in this door, the faces of the people and the peach blossoms reflected each other's red. The human face has gone nowhere, but the peach blossoms still smile in the spring breeze. ——Tang Dynasty Cui Hu's "Inscription on Nanzhuang of the Capital City"

4. The chilling cicadas are mournful, facing the pavilion at night, and the showers have begun to subside. There is no trace of drinking in the tent of the capital, and the place of nostalgia is the orchid boat. Holding hands and looking into tearful eyes, they were speechless and choked. The thought goes away, thousands of miles of smoke waves, the dusk is heavy and the sky is vast. ——Liu Yong of the Northern Song Dynasty, "Yulin Bell"

5. Since ancient times, passion has hurt parting, and it is even more embarrassing to neglect the Qingqiu Festival! Where did you wake up tonight? On the bank of willows, the dawn wind wanes and the moon falls. After so many years, it should be a good time and good scenery.

Even if there are thousands of styles, who can tell them! ——Li Shangyin's "Yulin Bell" of the Tang Dynasty
