Is it true that something falls in the sky?

Ford's first book, The Cursed Book, started with the discussion of strange objects falling from the sky, which is probably his favorite phenomenon. He collected many surprising reports from science magazines about objects falling from the sky: from alabaster to worms, but more frogs, fish and ice. Sometimes they fall in storms or showers, but sometimes they fall in sunny weather, which looks very mysterious.

Many people only vaguely know that there have been strange reports of falling objects, but they suspect that these reports are just anecdotes and can't be real events. No one who has really studied these phenomena will hold this same view. People can't argue that many things really fall from the sky like rain. In the Ford era, such things still happen today, and all kinds of sundries are equally rich. This mysterious phenomenon is not the weather, but why and how they fall.

Today, it is still common for fish and frogs to fall. For example, on February 22nd, 1994, hundreds of spotted bass were found jumping in the parking lot of the Westside Hotel in Danmara, which is about 590 kilometers from the desert inland in northern Australia. A week later, each bass is about 1~2 inches long, and a slightly larger fish falls in place. At that time, overnight, 12.7cm deep water fell. Rarely, sometimes something unique falls from the sky. Things that fell from the sky, and some things that are often thought to have fallen from airplanes, landed on Barnes' grilled flounder, which is said to be an on-board meal. At first, some people thought that the toilet on the plane was not functioning properly. This is the strangest thing about objects falling from the sky. Planes flying at a very high altitude will of course have some small ice cubes and then fall to the ground. However, before the manned flight, there were incidents of ice falling in the sky. Charles Ford's favorite example is a huge snow block, which is said to be as big as an elephant. It landed in Patan, Seringa around 1800 (the source of this story told by Ford sounds like nonsense).

Another explanation is often used to explain that frogs and fish fall from the sky: those careless animals are blown up from rivers or ponds by passing tornadoes at sea and then thrown somewhere by the roadside. A more peculiar example of the same phenomenon is an event that happened on the other side of the earth in the spring of about 1986. A group of fishermen drifted in the Pacific Ocean in an open boat for more than four months. They survived by catching sharks because the outboard motor was broken. However, they soon got tired of eating that kind of food every day, as the last person who came to save them explained. "One Saturday night, they were praying, hoping to catch a different kind of fish, because they felt sick at the sight of sharks. At this time, something fell on the boat, a rare snakehead. Generally speaking, it is impossible to catch this kind of fish by trawling. From the future to the surface of the ocean, it only lives about 990 kilometers underwater. Even excluding the unusual accidental factors when the fish falls, the Kribidi fish may fall.

In the past, the most mysterious flying object in the sky was "angel's hair", which was a filament formed by an obvious gelatinous substance. They fall from the sky and dissolve when they touch the ground. Sometimes it is associated with flying saucers. There are many recorded examples to show that it is actually solid waste discharged by flying saucers, such as 1952 10 June 6544. Over the French city of Oreland, people saw a very long and narrow cylinder with about 30 smaller objects beside it. Many of them hung their angel's hair and fell to the ground. Some of them were hung on some bushes and telephone lines, and they stayed for several hours.

Since 1950s, there have been fewer and fewer reports about angel hair, which may be partly due to the fact that in 1970s, UFO Research Center found some materials for analysis, and found that the angel hair was just a kind of spider web. However, cobwebs themselves sometimes have mysterious characteristics, and sometimes they are piled together in unusual quantities-extremely spectacular, and people can't help asking. For example, on the night of 19881October 28th, the coast guard patrolling the English Channel outside Dorset, England, reported that they saw a spider web cloud, with an estimated area of about 77 square kilometers on the modern battlefield. Spider webs still have dangerous meanings. During the Bosnian conflict, several reports said that a "mysterious reticular substance" was released from Croatia. It has been floating on local people's heads and got several samples for analysis. Under the microscope, they look like composite materials, not natural cobwebs. However, the motivation of Serbs to release this apparently harmless substance is still a matter of concern.
