What is floating weather?

According to the authoritative explanation of China Meteorological Network, floating dust meteorology refers to the weather phenomenon that dust or soil particles are suspended in the atmosphere, making the horizontal visibility less than 10km.

Floating dust appears when there is no wind or wind before and after the cold air passes through the border. It means that dust and fine sand float evenly in the air, mostly from dust spread by high-altitude airflow in the distance, or from unsinkable fine particles floating in the air after dust storms and sand blowing, and the vertical visibility is also poor.

Sandstorm weather mostly occurs in spring and is divided into three grades: floating dust, sand blowing and sandstorm. Floating dust is the weakest one in dusty weather. Sandstorm weather in parts of northern and southern China mostly belongs to floating dust or sand blowing, which can't reach the level of sandstorm. The reason for the formation of floating dust weather is the high temperature and dry weather this year. After the surface of Inner Mongolia thawed, the dust was blown to the altitude of 1000 to 5000m by strong wind, and went south with the wind.
