Artificial rainfall of Ningxia Meteorological Bureau

The drought in Ningxia is serious, and artificial precipitation enhancement is a key work of Ningxia Meteorological Bureau. In order to reduce the impact of drought, Ningxia Meteorological Bureau conducted in-depth research on artificial rainfall. From day to night on August 8, 2007, there was precipitation in the south of Yinchuan, Ningxia, including heavy rain in Jingyuan, heavy rain in Liupanshan and moderate to heavy rain in Xingren, Haiyuan, Guyuan and Longde. During the precipitation, the Shadow Command Center of Ningxia Autonomous Region cooperated with shadow offices at all levels, aircraft precipitation enhancement bases and rocket operation points in the whole region according to the short-and medium-term forecast results and the evolution characteristics of radar echoes to seize the favorable operation opportunity. On August 8, two artificial precipitation enhancement operations were carried out in mountainous areas in southern Ningxia and parts of dry areas in central Ningxia. The operation time was 5 hours 13 minute, and the cumulative operation area was 70,000 square kilometers. After the aircraft operation, the precipitation in the operation area and the affected areas has been effectively increased, which has played a positive role in effectively alleviating the long-term severe drought, increasing soil moisture, improving drinking water difficulties for people and livestock, crop growth in autumn and ecological construction.
