The origin and history of Xiangyin Taifu Road

The "Taifu" here refers to Zuo Zongtang

Zuo Zongtang was from Xiangyin. He experienced the pacification of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the Westernization Movement, and the rebellion of Shaanxi-Gansu Tongzhi Hui Dynasty in his life. Important historical events such as the rebellion and the recovery of Xinjiang to safeguard China's unification

Zuo Zongtang died of illness on September 5, 1885 at the age of seventy-three. The imperial court posthumously awarded him the posthumous title of Taifu, Wenxiang. The Zhaozhong Temple and the Xianliang Temple were enshrined in the capital, and special temples were built in Hunan and other provinces where meritorious services were made.

In order to commemorate Zuo Zongtang, this road was named "Taifu Road". In addition, the only citizen square in the county is called Zuo Zongtang Square, and there is a hotel called Zuo Zongtang Hotel; as for Zuo Zongtang, Zongtang's former residence and Zuo Wenxiang Temple are important cultural attractions in Xiangyin County.
