The ghost king asked the holy girl: "What kind of profession is the mother of the Bodhisattva practicing in this life?" The saint replied: My mother had wrong views and ridiculed the Three Jewels.

If you believe it temporarily, it will be disrespectful. Although death is short-lived, the place of life is unknown.

Wu Du asked: What is the surname of the Bodhisattva’s mother? The holy girl replied: My father and my mother are both Brahmans. My father's name is Shiloh Shanxian and my mother's name is Yue Dili. Poison-free clasped his palms together and said to the Bodhisattva: May the saint return to his original place without any sorrow or sorrow.

It has been three days since the birth of the sinful daughter of Emperor Yue. Yun Cheng's filial son made offerings to his mother to cultivate her blessings, and gave gifts to the Pagoda and Temple of King Tathagata Tathagata.

It is not just the mother of Bodhisattva who escapes from hell, but also all the sinners who are bound to experience happiness on this day, and they will all be reborn together. After the Ghost King finished speaking, he clasped his hands and retreated.

The Brahmin girl returns home as if in a dream. Having realized this, I made a great vow in front of the statue of King Tathagata in the Awakening of Flower Concentration: May I free all sinful and suffering sentient beings in the coming kalpas and set up expedients to liberate them.

The Buddha told Ma?ju?rī: The ghost king at that time was not poisonous, but the Bodhisattva of Wealth is now. The Brahmin woman is Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.

The Second Gathering of Avatars At that time, hundreds of thousands of billions of inconceivable, indescribable, immeasurable, and indescribable countless asamkhya worlds and all the hells, all the avatars of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, gathered together in Trayasa. Due to the divine power of the Tathagata, in various aspects, those who have attained liberation and followed the path of karma, each have thousands of billions of nayutas, holding incense and flowers to make offerings to the Buddha.

Those who came with me and others will never turn back to Anuttarasamyaksambodhi because of the teachings of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. These people have been wandering around in life and death for a long time, suffering in the six realms, and have no rest for a while.

Due to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s vast compassion and deep vows, each of them achieved fruitful realization. When he arrives at the Tragedy, his heart will be filled with enthusiasm, and he will look up to the Tathagata without leaving his eyes for a moment.

At that time, the World-Honored One stretched out his golden arms and touched the tops of hundreds of thousands of billions of inconceivable, indescribable, immeasurable, indescribable, and immeasurable avatars of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Mahasattva in the world, and did this. Said: In the evil world of the five turbidities, I teach and educate such strong and strong sentient beings, so that their minds can be tamed, and they can give up evil and return to the right path. I also have hundreds of billions of incarnations, and I have set up conveniences widely.

It may have beneficial roots, and you will believe and accept it when you hear it; it may have good results, and it will be achieved by diligent encouragement; it may be dark and dull, and it will return after a long time; or it may have heavy karma, and it will not generate respect. In this way, all sentient beings of this generation are different and have separate bodies to save themselves.

It may appear in the body of a man, a woman, a dragon, a god or a ghost, or appear in mountains, forests, plains, rivers, ponds, springs, and wells, all of which benefit people and save them all. He may appear in the body of the Emperor of Heaven, the King of Brahma, the King of Chakravartin, the layman, the king, the body of a minister or an assistant, the body of an official or a subordinate, a bhikkhu, a bhikshuni, or an upasaka. Upasika bodies, and even sravakas, arhats, pratyekabuddhas, bodhisattvas and other bodies can be transformed into salvation.

Not only the Buddha's body appears in front of him. You observe that I have worked hard for many kalpas to save sentient beings who are suffering from such difficulties and strong sins.

Those who are not tamed will be repaid according to their karma.

If you fall into the lower realms and suffer great suffering, you should remember that I was in the Trayastrim Heaven Palace and diligently paid my instructions.

Let all living beings in the Saha world be liberated until Maitreya is born. They will be free from all suffering forever and meet the Buddha's prophecies. At that time, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, who was incarnate in all the worlds, regained the same form. With tears in his eyes, he said to the Buddha: "I have been guided by the Buddha from a long time ago, and I have gained incredible spiritual power and great wisdom."

My avatars fill hundreds of thousands of billions of Ganges sand worlds. Each world takes on hundreds of thousands of billions of bodies. Each body saves hundreds of thousands of billions of people, so that they can worship the Three Jewels and escape from life and death forever. To the joy of Nirvana. However, for the good deeds I have done in the Dharma, no matter how small a hair, a grain, a grain of dust, or even a hair, I will gradually overcome them and achieve great benefits.

I only hope that the World Honored One will not worry about beings with bad deeds in the future. This is what the Three White Buddhas said: I only hope that, World Honored One, I will not worry about beings with bad deeds in future lives.

At that time, the Buddha praised Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and said: How good! How good! I am happy to help you. If you can achieve enlightenment for a long time and make great vows, your breadth will be completed and you will realize Bodhi.

On the third day of the audience’s Karmic Destiny, Lady Maya, the mother of the Buddha, respectfully put her palms together and asked Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva: Holy One, sentient beings in Jambudvipa have made different karma and received retribution. What is the matter? Ksitigarbha replied: There are thousands of worlds, and even lands, where there may be hells or there may be no hells; there may be women or there may not be women; there may be Buddha Dharma or there may not be Buddha Dharma. Even the Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are like this. It is not only the sins of hell. Report first class. Madam Maya said again to the Bodhisattva: I am willing to hear about the evil destinies experienced by the retribution of sins in Jambudvipa.

Ksitigarbha replied: Holy Mother, I only wish to listen and accept, I will speak roughly. The mother of Buddha said in plain words: May the saint speak.

At that time Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s White Holy Mother said: South Jambudvipa, the sin registration number is like this. If there are living beings who are unfilial to their parents, or even kill them, they will fall into the endless hell, where they will have no chance of escape for thousands of billions of kalpas.

If any sentient being sheds the blood of the Buddha, slanders the Three Jewels, or disrespects the sutras, he will also fall into the endless hell for thousands of billions of kalpas, with no hope of escape. If there are sentient beings who infringe upon the permanent residence, pollute the monks and nuns, or indulge in sexual desires within the garland, or kill or injure them, such people will fall into the endless hell for thousands of billions of kalpas, with no time to escape.

If there are sentient beings who pretend to be ascetics, have a non-ascetic mind, use useless means, wear white clothes, violate the precepts, and do all kinds of evil, such people will fall into the endless hell for thousands of billions of kalpas, and there will be no hope of escape. . If there are sentient beings who steal permanent property such as grain, food, food, and clothing, and even refuse to take a single thing from them, they will fall into the endless hell for thousands of billions of kalpas, with no hope of escape.

Ksitigarbha said: Holy Mother, if there are any sentient beings who commit such sins, they will fall into the five hells without even a single thought. Madam Maya asked Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva again: Why is it called the endless hell? Ksitigarbha said: Holy Mother, there are hells within the iron-enclosed mountain. There are eighteen hells in the great hell, and there are five hundred in them, and they have different names. There are thousands of hells in them, and they have different names.

The prison city of Uninterrupted Prison has a circumference of more than 80,000 miles. Its city is made of pure iron and is 10,000 miles high. The fire gathers on the city and there are few gaps. In its prison city, all prisons are connected and have different names.

There is only one prison, called Wujian. Its circumference is eighteen thousand miles, and the prison wall is a thousand miles high. It is surrounded by iron, and the upper fire penetrates the lower part, and the lower fire penetrates the upper part. Iron snakes and iron dogs spit fire and gallop on the prison wall, running east and west.

There are beds in prison, thousands of miles away. When a person suffers, he will find his body lying all over the bed.

Thousands of people suffer, and each of them is found on the bed. Such is the reward felt by all karma.

And all the sinners are suffering. Thousands of yakshas and other evil spirits, their mouths and teeth are like swords, their eyes are like lightning, and their hands are like copper claws, dragging down sinners.

There is also a Yaksha who holds a large iron halberd and strikes the body, either in the mouth and nose, or in the abdomen and back. Throw it over or put it on the bed, and there will be an iron eagle eating the sinner's eyes.

There is also an iron snake strangling the sinner's neck. Within the joints of the limbs, long nails were driven out, the tongues were pulled out to plow, the intestines were extracted and chopped, and the copper was sealed. 5. He said to people: "This is Zhongshan wine." When the master came, he heard some wine. He drank it, spat it out and said with a smile, "This is the bad liquid I gave you." "It's bad." Translation There was a person among the guests who liked Buddhism. Whenever he discussed the truth with people, he would always use his set of Buddhist sermons to dominate others. Only the people of Zhongshan were good at brewing good wine for a thousand days. The people of the State of Lu looked for ways to make wine but failed.

There was an official in the State of Zhongshan. They stole the dregs from the winery and took them home. They soaked the dregs with Lu wine and boasted to others, "This is Zhongshan's good wine." The Lu people drank it and thought it was really good. The wine from Zhongshan came.

One day, the owner of the Zhongshan winery came and heard that the wine was available. He asked for it, took a sip, spit it out and said with a smile, "This is soaked in my lees." "Now, you may be able to show off the Buddhist principles in front of me, but I'm afraid the real Buddha will laugh at you for stealing his wine lees." The comment cannot be false, nor can it be true.

Putting falsehood as truth and inferiority as excellence can deceive people for a while, but it can never deceive people for a lifetime. One day, the truth will come to light and the truth will be revealed. . 6. [Request Translation] Ancient Chinese Buddhist Classics

This is a Zen koan. It is not written in ancient Chinese, but in the vernacular of the time. The ancients also spoke in vernacular, but there are still some differences from today.

The monks had just gathered. Zen Master Huaihai (silent) returned to the abbot's room and closed the door for a long time.

The master of the hospital chased after him and said: The monk (referring to Zen Master Huaihai) promised a certain person (he should be the master of the hospital to call himself) to go to the lobby (to teach the Dharma), but why did he return to the abbot's room? The Zen master said: Master, there are sutra teachers who lecture on sutras (or are proficient in sutras), commentators who lecture on (or are proficient in treatises on), and lawyers who lecture on precepts (or are proficient in precepts). How can you blame me, the old monk (who doesn’t teach the Dharma)?

Zen Master Huaihai asked Zen Master Yunyan: What are you doing?

Yun Yan said: Carrying excrement (personally, I understand it as "picking excrement", which may not be correct).

Huaihai said: That [gradually/er] (this character is pronounced as "shangzian/er", pronounced here as "ni", the third tone is a modal particle, which is equivalent to "that". It is "that")? Note: "That" alludes to Buddha nature. In Zen Buddhism, there is a saying of "speak the word "Buddha" and rinse your mouth for three days. This is because we are afraid that people will be attached to language and words, so there are few Buddha statues in Zen halls, and the founders rarely say "Buddha". class words.

Yunyan said: Yes. My Buddha nature is there.

Huaihai said: Who do you come and go for? Who are you doing in this way of life and death or practicing cultivation in the end?

Yun Yan said: Give him ("him" should refer to Buddha nature) something. I don't understand this sentence very well, please forgive me.

Huaihai said: Why not ask him to act quickly (or leave quickly)?

Yunyan said: Monk, please don’t slander him. The Buddha-nature is formless and formless. It cannot be explained without words or words, so how can we talk about accompanying him on a journey together? If so, wouldn’t it be based on image?

Huaihai said: If you don’t cooperate (or be harmonious), how can you tell? This sentence is not very clear.

Yun Yan said: How do you say this?

Huaihai said: (You) still bear (him)? Are you still burdened with the Buddha nature?

When Zen Master Huaihai was sitting, a monk asked: Wuwudi (1. Towering appearance, does not fit. 2. Still appearance. 3. Drowsy appearance. 4. Diligent appearance. The latter three may mean "Wuwu". It is not clear which one it is, and it is more abstract. What are you thinking about? The monk asked Huaihai, what are you thinking about?

Huaihai said: Think about it without thinking about it. Think "without thinking".

The monk also said: How to think about things that are "not considered"?

Huaihai said: It’s not about thinking. "Not thinking" does not mean "not thinking". "Not thinking" still has some thinking involved. "Non-thinking" refers to issues that no longer involve thinking. Personally I think so.

The monk asked: What will happen to me as a student (or as a Buddhist student) when I plan to return to my hometown? "Hometown" is not the real hometown, but refers to the nature of the Dharma Realm. That is to say, what does it look like when I see my true face (seeing my true nature)?

Huaihai said: ...(omitted) There is nothing unusual about seeing the true face, don’t look at it. Personal understanding.

The monk said: If that is the case, I will not return to my original appearance (return to my nature).

Huaihai said: You need (or should) go back. If you return home, sit down and realize your nature and become a Buddha, I will show you a way to save food. (I don’t understand, how to save food? Haha.)

The monk said: Please (speak).

Huaihai said: ...I have started to practice Zen. I don’t know what it means. It may be that it allows you to see your true colors when you don’t understand and suddenly become suspicious.

The monk asked (Huaihai): What is Nirvana?

Huaihai said: What was your name when you didn’t speak? Point it out! Don't talk about talking, just open your mouth and you will be far away from the Buddha. The real wonderful teachings of the Buddha have nothing to do with language. What do you want me to say? After all, it is still a matter on the side of Buddha nature, not a true view of nature.

Zen Master Huaihai saw Zunbu Na (a Zen master? I am not sure) washing the Buddha (image), so he asked: You can wash this (Buddha image), and (you) also wash the other one. (My own Buddha nature)? The Buddha image has a tangible form, and we can grasp it. The Buddha, the true nature of all living beings, is formless and formless, so how can we capture it?
