At that time, Zhu Yuanzhang's actual control area was only south of Huaihe River. Long before he proclaimed himself emperor, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered Xu Da to lead 300,000 troops north. It didn't take long for Xu Dalong to conquer the viceroy of the Yuan Dynasty. When the Battle Report was sent back to Nanjing, Zhu Yuanzhang renamed most of it Beiping, meaning to pacify the north.

Beiping is the fief of Zhu Yuanzhang's fourth son Judy. After Zhu Yuanzhang's death, the throne passed to his grandson Zhu Yunwen. Nanjing National Government renamed Beijing "Beiping", making it and Tianjin a special city. Almost overnight, Beijing, the capital of the Ming and Qing Dynasties for 500 years, became Beiping.
