This is the best Hong Kong film in recent years, but it can't be shown in Chinese mainland.

The film is not so much telling a story as portraying three characters and an era. In the last scene of the film, the experience of the three of them is explained: Ji, who is looking for a robbery partner, is led upstairs to the private room by the waiter, and Zhuo is clamoring for the waiter with a half-cold rice basin. Ye, who was drunk by mainland officials, vomited on the table as soon as he came out of the toilet and asked the waiter for tea. And the camera stops here, just like an absurd and realistic black comedy.

If the film ends here, then its connotation is just an ordinary police film.

Du Qifeng interspersed the grand background of 1997' s return in his films, and with those trivial film languages, he was chased, hunted and besieged by three thieves, which ended the whole era of Hong Kong films. It also marks the lonely footnote of the Hong Kong film era.
