Shui Ying Temple in Tengchong Renewal Frontier

? Go to Tengchong again in autumn and October. In addition to the Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall in western Yunnan, Heshun Ancient Town, Volcano Park, Datang Hot Springs and Laonianzi Hot Springs, I went to renew the frontier ancient town again just for the last time, but I didn't go into the water to reflect the wish of the Zen Temple.

The ladies stayed in Duan Jiayu Courtyard to enjoy the jade. My brother-in-law Ma and I went straight across the river in Shangcun, passed a quiet small lake, and went in through the back door of the temple along the path. The temple is not big. Judging from the stone steps at the foot and the wooden beams in the temple, this temple is indeed some years old.

? There is only one female layman in her fifties in the temple. She told me that several masters in the temple have gone out to attend some dharma meetings. So, we were warmly greeted and walked around, and two dogs followed the female layman. According to her, this temple has a history of nearly 500 years. There was a lot of rain this year, and landslides appeared on the hillside behind the temple. Some fences and walls need maintenance and repair. It is said that the local government also asked some people to look at it and discuss it, and then there was no further news. Master raises money and repairs it bit by bit.

The female householder was very sad, but Ming also donated money to help restore the temple construction.

Yes, the layman also invited my brother-in-law and me to taste the mountain spring water flowing down from Guanyin Temple. It is sweeter and more unique to drink it directly.

Discussion after the visit

A temple, if explained in popular language, is actually a school. Those statues are similar to the ancestors or portraits and photos in our ancestral temple, mainly for expression. The statue is tall and solemn in order to make future generations respect the sages (their occupation is similar to that of modern teachers and professors). Kowtow, fold, bow, etc. It's all to show respect, gratitude, remembrance and commemoration.

Whether the school is running well (flourishing incense) has a lot to do with the virtue, cultivation, knowledge and ability of the principal (abbot/abbot). If we can bring spiritual comfort, encouragement, psychological counseling and material help to the believers around us, then incense will naturally flourish, and believers with financial resources will be willing to sponsor and support the continuous construction of temples.

? However, temples have become tourist attractions, and it is understandable to appropriately increase tourism income and promote local economy. If we can give full play to the intellectual education function of educating people to cultivate kindness, altruism, morality and moral character, and if we have enough financial resources to set up charities and schools to help orphans and disabled people, then we will certainly get the support of society and the public.
