Xinyang, Henan, how many are not "Henan"?

Is the southernmost tip of Henan South or North? The Huaihe River, which flows through the northern end of Xinyang, gives way to Xinyang, which is south of the Huaihe River Line in Qinling Mountains, the geographical boundary of China. Xinyang never considers itself a northern city, but in the eyes of other southerners, Xinyang, a Henan city, is not so "southern".

Xinyang, as the "south of the Yangtze River in the north", is intertwined with the heroic Yellow River basin and gentle scenery of the south of the Yangtze River with criss-crossing water systems, terraced fields, lush tea gardens and continuous Dabie Mountains.

Xinyang, located at the junction of Henan, Hubei and Anhui provinces, has always been known as "the rhyme of Henan and Feng Chu". Three different cultural systems, namely, Central Plains culture, Chu culture and Wu Yue culture, are intertwined in Xinyang, and * * * has shaped Xinyang's unique temperament.

Under the influence of this blending temperament, there are many differences between Xinyang people and Henan people. For example, Xinyang people can't speak Henan dialect, and they can't live without rice for a day.

Why is there such a big difference between xinyang dialect and Henan dialect? At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Li Zicheng rose up and led an army south to capture Gwangju (now Huangchuan County, Xinyang) and brutally ordered the Gwangju Massacre. After the establishment of the Qing Dynasty, the Qing government ordered people from Nanchang, Jiujiang and Jiangxi (when Huguang, Fujian and Jiangxi filled Sichuan) to move to Xinyang to fill the urban population deficit, and Gan dialect and Hakka dialect became the main dialects.

Because of geographical factors, Xinyang has been in close contact with Hubei and Anhui, and has been deeply affected. As a result, the northern dialect is closer to the Central Plains Mandarin, the southern dialect is closer to the Jianghuai Mandarin, and the western dialect is greatly influenced by Hubei dialect.

The rugged and watery Xinyang did not leave a vast planting area for wheat, but created unique conditions for the growth of rice. Rice naturally replaced pasta and became the protagonist at the dinner table.

With a meal, the dishes can't be vague. Nanwan fish, produced in Nanwan Lake, the "Pearl of South Henan", together with mandarin fish, crucian carp, herring, eel and snakehead, brought hundreds of ways to eat fish balls, grilled crucian carp, dried stir-fried white fish strips, fresh fish in shopping malls and braised turtle in Huangchuan.

Compared with traditional Henan cuisine, Xinyang cuisine is deeply influenced by Chu culture and tastes spicy. Game, sauerkraut, bacon, pot rice, grilled fish, stone jelly, butter fire, Gushi goose, Ciba, spoon steamed buns, Regan Noodles (slightly different from Wuhan Regan Noodles, with chicken soup and other small ingredients), etc., absolutely satisfy every foodie's stomach.

Have a leisurely cup of tea after dinner. Tea tree is another unique existence in Xinyang, Henan Province. Cascading terraces and hazy clouds are the favorite growth conditions for tea trees. Xinyang Maojian tea is the best, with thin, round, bright and straight leaves and strong tea fragrance.

No matter from which aspect, Xinyang's temperament is mixed with various characteristics, and it is this mixing and tolerance that makes Xinyang a unique existence. Do you like this city?
