Hiroshima was chosen as the target of American atomic bombing during World War II.

1on the morning of July 30th, 945, the heads of the United States, the Soviet Union and Britain in Potsdam received telegrams and faxes. Japan rejected the ultimatum issued by the allied forces and only replied with four words-"ignoring".

After the Potsdam Conference, Truman returned to China by American warship. On the way, he ordered the army to drop the big bomb. We have no choice.

Soon, the US War Department received an official operational order: The 509 mixed formation will carry out the first special bombing on the following four target cities from August 3rd, 1945, weather conditions permitting. These four cities are Hiroshima, Ogura, Niigata and Nagasaki.

When this order was first issued, many people were puzzled by these four target cities. As we all know, the core of Japan is Tokyo, but why is it not in the bombing target?

Originally, Americans did not consider bombing Tokyo, but judging from the result of surrender, the Japanese were very loyal to the emperor. They would rather fight a soldier than surrender.

Faced with such an attitude, Americans feel that if Tokyo is bombed, it will not only make them surrender, but may make the Japanese choose to die together.

Tokyo has been ruled out, but there are other big cities besides Tokyo. Why did you choose Hiroshima?

Hiroshima, located in the Lany Delta, is a port city. This is an important military town with a communication center and an open area for troops to assemble. Moreover, 85% of the people here are ordinary people. If you choose to bomb here, it is obviously more deterrent.

Just a few months ago, almost every city in Japan suffered a round of bombing, only Hiroshima was intact. So Hiroshima is the best choice for bombing targets.

The target has been selected, but it is still unknown whether the bombing will succeed that day. Everything depends on the weather. If the weather is bad and it is impossible to lock the target from the air, it is impossible to carry out the attack. Therefore, the 509 mixed formation that carried out the secret bombing of Hiroshima was on standby at any time. This aviation unit is as mysterious as this mission. If Japan hadn't been bombed by atomic bombs, many people wouldn't even know they existed.

1In June, 945, the 509th Brigade was transferred from the United States to Tianning Island in the Pacific Ocean, which is more than 2,000 kilometers away from Japan and only takes more than 6 hours to fly. Moreover, it was the largest air base in the world at that time, with four runways and more than 500 B-29 bombers parked.

A few days ago, 2 1 Air Force of the US Army was stationed on the island, mainly responsible for bombing Japan. 2 1 The Air Force flies to Japan to carry out bombing missions every day, while members of the 509th Brigade only carry out precision bombing training every day, and spend the rest of the time in clubs specially prepared for them.

All members of the 509th Brigade are completely isolated from other troops. Everyone who enters the area where the 509th Brigade is located must have a special pass to enter. It seems that they are carrying out some secret tasks, but this unit seems to be doing nothing every day, and the security conditions are particularly good. The strange way of work and rest of the 509th Brigade puzzled other bomber units stationed on the island at that time, and even the members of the 509th Brigade themselves were very confused.

Their training content is different from others. The only certainty is that they will complete a special task in the future, and to complete this special task, they must master a special skill, that is, after throwing nearly 4 tons of simulated bombs at the target at a height of 10000 meters, they will turn away from the target at a large angle. In fact, these are exactly the training that simulates the whole process of dropping an atomic bomb.

At the military airport in Tianning Island, the personnel responsible for bombing have been preparing for one and a half months. The "little boy" atomic bomb planned to be dropped on Hiroshima weighs more than 4 tons.

The uranium bomb left Los Alamos National Laboratory as an independent component and was assembled on Tianning Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The atomic bomb was carried by a B-29 bomber. The bomber was named "Ainola Guy" after the pilot's mother.

August 6 1945, everything is ready. The dropping of the atomic bomb must be carried out within the visible range of the naked eye, not through the radar, so as to be more accurate. In order to ensure the accuracy of the bombing, the US military also dispatched three reconnaissance planes in the early morning to observe the weather conditions of three alternative targets-Kokura, Niigata and Hiroshima.

The observation results show that there are dark clouds above the small warehouse. Niigata is too far away and the atomic bomb is too heavy to transport. Hiroshima in the middle is sunny and the most suitable for throwing. In this way, Hiroshima became the first bombing target.

At 2: 45 am, after about 12 hours of preparation, 4.5 tons of goods were loaded. Before take-off, all the crew members received cyanide capsules, which can be fatal within 6 minutes after taking them. Once the plane is shot down, the crew will take medicine to commit suicide.

At the command, the task officially began. Ainola immediately took off and headed west into Japan.

Ainola Guy was on his way to Hiroshima when the B-29, who was in charge of meteorological investigation, suddenly triggered the air raid alarm in Hiroshima. But because it was early in the morning, there were not many pedestrians on the street, and everyone hid in the bomb shelter. After about 30 minutes, it was still calm outside. As soon as the alarm was lifted, people returned to the ground in succession to prepare for the day's work. However, no one expected that the bombers that reappeared a few hours later brought disaster to Hiroshima.

Three hours after leaving Tinian Island, the bomber approached Iwo Jima, where it will meet two reconnaissance planes recording the explosion. There were no clouds in Wan Li, and no enemy planes or anti-aircraft guns fired at them.

A minute and a half before dropping the bomb, the bomber looked at the target about 3 kilometers below and carefully made the final adjustment. Ainola Guy's bombing target was the T-bridge.

The bridge spans the Taitianchuan River flowing through the city center, and it is still clearly visible from an altitude of more than 9,700 meters. In a few minutes, the bridge and even the city will disappear from the map.

At 8 o'clock in the morning, Ainola guy gradually approached Hiroshima, and the air raid alarm sounded again as it approached. This time, people didn't hide in the bomb shelter like they heard the alarm for the first time, and no one even stopped. Coming and going, there is no one hiding in the ordinary street.

After the alarm sounded 1 hour 15 minutes, that is, at 9 o'clock, the US military dropped the atomic bomb "Little Boy" at an altitude of more than 9,000 meters. About 40 seconds later, the "little boy" exploded 600 meters above Hiroshima.
