Characteristics of Sakurajima, Japan

Sakurajima is a symbol of Kagoshima. When it comes to "Kagoshima Prefecture", many Japanese people think of a long-rising volcanic ash cloud. Sakurajima was a veritable island at first, but it was connected with Dayu Peninsula by lava erupted from Dazheng volcano in 19 14. There are two main craters in Sakurajima, namely Nanyue Peak Crater and Showa Crater. In 2006, the Showa crater erupted again after 58 years. Since then, more than half of the volcanic eruptions in Sakurajima have originated here.
