Network environment

Taiwan’s wifi coverage is very high, but it is not completely free. Only cities such as Taipei, New Taipei, and Kaohsiung, as well as the Taiwan Executive Yuan Examination Council, provide free wifi services for iTaiwan, which is provided for the Taiwan government. Most Taiwanese hotels have stopped providing wifi, and a considerable number of B&Bs provide wifi. However, many five-star hotels charge for wifi. Taiwan's NCC law stipulates that you must know who is using the Internet, so whether it is free or paid, you must log in and provide the registrant's data. Fortunately, Taiwan’s free wifi accounts are interoperable. The main iTaiwan and Taipei’s TPE-free accounts can be interoperable, that is, one account can travel throughout Taiwan.

Wi-Fi in public places

1. iTaiwan: Provided by the Taiwan Executive Yuan, there are 3,000 hotspots across Taiwan and Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, mainly at post offices, Stations, visitor centers, government units and other places.

2. TPE-free wifi signal: This is provided to Taipei citizens at the expense of the Taipei City Government, with the largest and densest coverage in Taipei.

3. New Taibei’s wifi signal: Free wifi, and the signal can be found at the city hall, district offices and health centers in New Taipei City.

4. WiFi signals in other cities: Tainan City has its own WiFi, which requires a separate application and the coverage is not large. All MRT stations in Kaohsiung City provide free wifi that does not require an account or password. I haven't found it in other places in Taichung yet.

5. Convenience store wifi: 7-11 has its own 7-wifi, but it is not free. However, 7-11 has wide coverage and is universal, which is very convenient. You need to purchase a 7-11 Internet package separately, or be a monthly subscriber of 7mobile, and it is free to use.

6. WiFi at scenic spots: A few scenic spots such as the National Palace Museum and the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taiwan have their own free WiFi. You can apply for it on the spot and it is valid on the same day.

Power supply and voltage

The voltage in Taiwan is 110V, which is a parallel two-pin jack. Most mobile phones and laptops used in mainland China are 110-220V, so there is no need to bring a transformer. Yes, but the notebook charger is a three-hole one, so you need to bring a conversion plug if you bring it.
